Servicing - the BIG ONE

Featured Replies

OK here goes:

Purchased 04 plate Fabia VRs on 1st November with 38k on the clock so knew some major servicing would be needed pretty soon.

Spoke to local Stealer about 40k service and waterpump/cam belt work - and fell off my chair at the quoted £900+:mad:

A Furby driving mate pointed me in direction of local VAG specialist who did his for £560 so thats a huge saving already but:

I dug out the service book as the car ticked over 40k a few weeks ago and found that its last service was at 37k a month or 2 before i purchased it.

Main query is with the car reaching 4 years and cam belt work in April/May will it be ok to wait until then to get the service done; given that it probably won't reach 10k since its last service?

What does anyone think?

From previous experience I would get it done!

If you want it done cheap then let me know matey as a very good friend of mine is the workshop manager at my local Skod garage and he will probably do it on the side and may even stamp the book for you! Let me know and I'll pass on your details.

I would offer (as happy to do it on my own car) but I can't stamp your book!

Cambelt aside, the next service would be due around September time, provided you hadn't done over 10k miles, so April / May would be fine. I got mine done at a main dealer as I had some warranty work needing doing, and an annual service + cambelt change was just shy of GBP600 - so GBP900 is ridiculous. I think somewhere like Awesome charges about GBP180 for the belt change on its own, so you shouldn't really be paying more than about GBP450 for a service and a belt change at an independent specialist...

Managed to crack less than £500 for 40k service, cambelt and water pump, brake fluid change and MoT at a main dealer just the other week :D

Quote of 900 quid, they are taking the micky. £500 tops, and even that's on the high side.

what mileage is the cam belt supposed to be changed at on fabia vrs?

60,000 miles or 4 years, whichever the sooner.

what needs to be done with the waterpump?

what needs to be done with the waterpump?

Replacing as its only about £30 for the pump so get it done at the same time to save money
