BUT now when i go into reverse i get a high pitch tone(like when you touch a sensor when it in reverse) and then nothing they stop working all to gether. any ideas

yep -its a sensor. This has happened to me 4 times now in 2yrs. Mine is going in next week for same problem. Fortunately I took out an extended Skoda Warranty in Nov 08 when car 3yrs old so is covered.

Thanks fo rthe reply. How much does a new sensor cost and is it a easy job to change one?

Not sure how much as I have had them changed free under warranty to date. I do seem to remember seeing someone in the past saying they are not cheap around £70 but not sure if that icluded the fitting?

Roto, Lummox Blue Fox or Superbia will probably tell you how to do a DIY job. again from memory you take the rear bumper off and the sensor clips in - then others have said you can get your hand up and do it without the bumper removal? Best of luck.

On this subject, I also get the beep but the sensors don't work at all. At one stage they worked when I pressed a button on the key fob with it in the ignition >I have recently changed the battery on the keyfob - could this be a problem?

That's normal when a sensor packs up you get the long beep when you first engage reverse and then nothing. if you engage reverse again having NOT turned ignition off - you get nothing not even the long beep. The long beep returns when you turn ignition off and then go through the process again. That's been the case each time with my 4 packing up.

I've no experience with OE parking sensors, but as they seem to be so problematic I recommend switching to after market.

Or opening the drivers door :D

I quick diagnostic check will tell you which one is faulty.

Thanks for all the advice. is there any way you can test each sensor to check which one is faulty. I have a meter to check them with. Do they go short or open when they pack in? Can you get after market ones that fit in the same holes on the bumper? Have skoda addressed this problem?

once again many thanks.

Let's see...

1) Trial & error replacement or possible resistance test?

2) Pass.

3) Depends on the diameter; I've not seen the OE sensors. They should be standard although I suspect they're not... Anyway if you do change to after market you'll need to replace all the wiring as well as the aftermarket sensors won't work with the OE brain.

4) Ha ha ha :)

4) Serious answer, I think they just replace them under warranty if/when applicable.

As Ross said VAG-COM will show which sensor is faulty.

Genuine Skoda kits (everything included) appear on ebay every now and then for the price of 1 sensor from a dealer, worth keeping an eye on there.
