tried installing cruise control but not working yet

Featured Replies

I've asked a more knowledgeable friend to install a 1K0 953 513 A cruise control into my nov 05 Octi2, no maxidot, but board computer present.

It is installed there, hardware, coding was done (at least the bit described http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Wheel#Coding here).

Ok, on the road, 30 km/h+ (tried 60 to be sure), switch to on, press the upper part on the rocker toggle switch (think it's set), nothing happens. Hold it down, nothing happens. Press down, then up, nothing happens. Hold down pressed nothing happens.

I know there isn't supposed to be a dash icon on as my car is nov '05, but what gives?

Have you coded the engine ECU as well as the steering wheel controller?

Uhm, there was one other thing being done with vag com, other than this, something involving a login code. If you can describe it, I can recognise it and tell if it was performed or not.

  • Author

My friend says 11463 was coded into engine 11 as well as the above.

number contained a typo

I'd say Ross has hit the nail on the head for a good starting point.

Did you also confirm you have the black/white wire to the steering controller?

11463 is the correct login for engine controller on a TDi

We're browsing some pictures we took during the process to determine if it's present, we overlooked checking that when the cowlings were off, it seems.

Fixed my typo, indeed, this is what we used, but my engine is an 1.6 FSI BLF.

Ok, then yes it is probably correct if the engine controller doesn't use long coding.

Suppose it's that, what other ones can/should we try? It's too late to open it again now and check for the wire, but I might be able to borrow a VAGcom for a couple minutes from a friend.

edit: VAGcom returned something along the lines of "login code accepted" for the said code.

If you have VAG-COM you can try using the MBV's to read if the switches are operating.

Do you have any other outstanding error codes?

  • Author

None other errors were there. How can I do the above? I'm heading over to the VAGcom enabled friend in a couple minutes. I just want to get the full picture before I leave.

Alright, I've determined that I have the proper version controller, the midline version supporting trip computer and cruise control.

Next up, found an cruise control implausible signal error which I've deleted and hasn't reappeared (I think).

No change yet. Will give it another go tomorrow, as it's already close to 2 am here.

cruise control implausible signal may very well relate to not having the wire fitted.

  • Author

Alright, out with it all again, and check for the wire. Black/white, going from pin 3 row 2 to , right?

There will only be one Black/White - Can't remember the pin number without getting my books out (11 rings a bell though )

  • Author

Didn't have a chance to open the car up yet due to extreme cold, but here is my error:

16952 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal

P0568 - 008 - Implausible Signal

The steering wheel controller module is HW: 1K0 953 549 A

Any thoughts, anybody? Is it the wire, the lever, or the coding?

Check the wire first.

Alright, will start this in the morning, hopefully. In case I don't have a black and white wire, I suppose I need to run one, might as well do it then, if the plastics are removed. The obvious question is: where should this wire come from and where does it lead to?

  • Author

I guess no black&white wire in mine, then:

If I need to run it, where does it come from, and which pin does it lead into?

Took a 2nd look inside the dash, after removing the lower kick panel. I can see a blue plug close to the firewall, with the large loom from the fuse box running close (through?) it. It's somewhat inline with the light switch.

Is that the plug I need to work on?

  • Author

Bump. Tried removing the said plug. Apart from leaving some skin behind didn't accomplish anything else.

How do you unclip that connector? I noticed it has some sort of latch on it's upper middle part, and another one in the lower left corner.

But how the hell do I take it out?

  • Author

Spent another hour and a half trying to remove the said plug but it wouldn't budge. It has 2 retainers on opposite sides that i can't get past.

I'm starting to think the garages have some sort of unlatching tool for the plug.

Sorry for the dealy I've been away for a couple of days.

The plug does come off, you do need to slide out the security latch.

The wire goes between pin 4 on the blue plug and pin 13 on the steering controller.
