My Fabia Accident Pictures (rear ended)

UPDATE 27.01.09 Insurance want to repair the car now, not happy about it - can I get a second opinion?

UPDATE 04.02.09 Second opinion worked, Insurance now say it's a write off.

I took some pictures today - boot was suprisingly okay except a small bit of creasing towards the back (seen bottom left of picture). Maybe this was because I was hit quite low down?

Both rear door sills are creased and the rear doors are difficult to open and shut - the drivers side is the worst - it actually scrapes paint against the rear pillar.

I assume it will be written off?

The other driver has admited liability to the insurance company. I assume that means there will not be any problems with getting a pay out and they will not be looking for reasons to avoid doing so?

Any idea on what to expect valuation wise? It's a 2001 Y reg 1.9TDi Elegance with only 35k and full skoda service history (every year) . . . I'm hoping something over £2750

Sorry to see that mate, Definate write off unfortunatly by the looks of it.

Still, it did its job and saved you from being hurt, every cloud and all that.

Ouch...................

Hope it all gets sorted out quickly for you.................

Oh dear, thats never good.

Hope you get things sorted out quick.

Yes that's a write off for sure. Crumple zones have done there bit and saved you from serious injury. Glad you OK.

One thing I forgot to mention was that in the impact my body was pushed back into the drivers seat which forced it to partially collapse - it whent into a more reclined position and lower down too. Together with my glasses flying off it took a while for my senses to kick-in and for me to realise I was still on this planet!

Yes obviously a strong car, might get an estate next time though for those added inches of crumple zone!

Yowza - that must have been a fair impact, to affect the structure at the bottom of the rear doors!

Another one voting for write-off, especially given the current climate for car values. Seems a shame as looked a nice motor, especially with that mileage and history. Just wait for the valuation now, I suppose and then consider the offer. Worth checking round AutoTrader et al, for similar cars - so you've got evidence and comparison to use when the value comes in.

Steve

Write-Off without a doubt - insurance company will be stupid not to write it off

Ok, will place a wanted advert for another one then :)

Will be interesting to know what you get off insurance - all the guides seem to be very low for prices for a TDI Elegance for 00/01 regs, yet I don't see any really being sold for £1500-odd that the books seem to suggest!

Might not be the best place to use, but whatcar.co.uk value the car with 35k miles at:

Dealer £3,105

Private £2,790

Part exchange £2,745

Trade £2,615

Cost new £11,920

Hope that helps.

Ouch sorry to hear that lets hope what ever the outcome it get sorted soon so you can carry on with normal life

Quite a difference between them - at least I can use some as ammunition if required - not many comparables on auto trader but those which exist are around £3500

It's worth printing off any comparable car adverts from 'Trader, so you have them to hand.

It can, and does, come in useful when they start coming back with valuations.

oooh that's cayenne red... can i have your front bumper and both front wings??

use the Glass's guide for valuation, its the most accurate

I had similar damage to my Corsa D when rear ended. Total cost to the insurance co. for a manufacturer warrantied approved repair by main dealer (which I alwayd find very expensive) was around £1900.

I was told that behind the bumper is a replaceable cross member made with boron-steel that is incredibly strong (it strengthens when stressed apparently). So in the end it just needed

New crossmember

New bumper

New tailgate (recovered glass)

New light cluster

Paint job

Geometery check

It didnt have any sill creasing though, that may be what writes it off.

I know the write off critea is usually based on 2/3 market value but as its other party paying this may go up to full market value. In your case the insurance co will want to use one of their approved repairers which are considerably cheaper than a main dealer.

Dont assume its a write off until you're told so by the insurance company.

LoL - they are in good condition wearing original paint so they would be worth having - I can ask where the car is going when it's taken away if you like . . .

yeah thanks, i need a new bumper and i can't be bothered to spray it, and it is quite hard finding them in that colour:)

R.i.p

Glad your Ok, :)

Yeah, if ya can, defonatly post where it ends up.

It's a Elegance with black interior, right?

Would love to get the squidggy arm rests off the front doors if i got a chance. OR, if your any good with a flat nose screw driver.. pop the front of the handle up (the bit with the windows switches in).. doesn't have to come all the way off.. just up enougth to slide the handle/rest bit forward (towards steering wheel) to pop off and then read the parts numbers underneath/on the bottom/on the back of the drivers and passengers side parts..

this is, of course.. if you feel up to it, have the spare time and can be botherd ;)

Thanks

Rob

Seems a write off but glad you are OK, that's the main thing

What was the other vehicle involved?

  • Author

Other car was an old style Renault Laguna.

Yes the interior has dark grey Libra upholstry, heated seats. Plastics are black / dark grey too.

Sorry Reflex88 I will not have time unless it's still here at the weekend . . .
