Heres my fuel pump cam follower

Featured Replies

Here is mine. Car was built March 2008 and now has 25k on it. The autotech has been in for approx 8-10k. The pics are good quality as it looks like it does in reality. You can see a circle that's gone light and in the centre the coating has worn off. It was still very smooth though but i changed it anyway.

Some reckon once the coating wears off it can wear through very quickly. Even so it was very smooth and unworn to the touch. I would suggest checking every 20k especially cars with uprated pumps.

I think I would have changed it too.

Showing signs of wear beyond the norm tbh and I'd deffinately had changed it to be on the safe side.

Here is a link to the thread I posted in April last year and you'll see from the pics in this one that it shows far less wear than yours!

I can safely say it would need to be checked at least every 20k. Steve what oil were you using?

I do oil changes every 5 or 6 K so it will be interesting when I check mine next week. I have 29K miles on my car so similar to Michaels.

Used nothing but Castrol Edge 5W-30

Is there a writeup anywhere for checking this? i seem to remember reading that you dont need to remove the pump all the way?

The black coating shouldn't be worn off, it's diamond based hardner. When that wears away the metal underneath the black will wear rapidly.

Can I ask where this item is physically located and how you get at it to inspect.

It sits on the end of the high pressure fuel pump piston and rests against the camshaft.
