Fitting HID lights to MK2 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Have any of you bought HID kits from Car Mod Shop. Below is the kit in question its a bi xenon kit with hi low beam. Is it a good kit?

From personal experience: No. The 'Bi-xenon' mechanism is very crude, a metal shield is moved back with a solenoid when main beam is applied, this alters the beam pattern from 'fairly blinding' to 'really blinding'.

There is a fair degree of slack in the solenoid mechanisn which means it will move about when driving along on low beam. If you really want to fit an aftermarket kit I would suggest low beam only and don't go mad with the K number either. I would look at the 6000K region.

why don't you try some Phillps BlueVision bulbs? They are very bright and white, look good

Not to mention a lot cheaper and road legal too :)

PowerBulbs - Upgrade Car Bulbs - Headlight Bulbs - Xenon Bulbs from Philips and Osram, including Philips Xtreme Power and Osram NightBreaker globes. give a good price and service I found. You find the Police do stop people with funny lights at times (is it worth 3 points and fine?) plus they look anti social...

Those BlueVision lights are really good, don't know why they call them Blue should be White vision.

As I replied in a similar posting quite a while ago, there is of course the question of legality, but I don't want to stir that whole issue up again. :)

I personally, would not consider fitting a HID light conversion kit to a standard reflector type light unit, which is what is fitted to Octavia. The reason for this is that the Xenon light source will not be controlled correctly and the beam will be incorret and highly likely to cause dazzle to oncoming traffic, including police cars, not that they seem to have any interest in faulty vehicle lighting

Fitment to a projector style headlight unit is a bit more acceptable, but probably varies from car to car type.

As someone has previously posted, condider fitting upgraded halogen bulbs - the Philips ?? has twice scored highest in AutoExpress tests.

I thought the Octy was projector type and not reflector?

fitted Phillips extremes and blue vision sides to mine. great over the standard halognes and nice and white instead of yellow but not a patch on my old xenons :(

I went the Nightbreaker route on my Mk2 vRS and I've been very happy with the results.

Really bright, white light.

I'm going to be honest - I too thought the Mk2 Octy used projector and not reflector - although I wouldn't swear on it.

Without getting into the legallity, the kit you mention is the wrong one. You dont need bi-xenon as the Octy has seperate low and main beam bulbs. The bi-xenons are for cars that have only one bulb that do both functions (2 fillements).

I believe the octi 2 has the projector type headlight unit and the octi 1 has the reflector type headlight

I don't want to offend anyone but I would like to say that there is no problem with after-market HID's on the Octy II.

I've had a H7 6000K kit installed on my car and haven't been flashed once. The reason for this is,as you all know, that the Octy II has projector-type headlights.

I consider my car much safer to drive in the dark now.I don't think I could actually go back to simple halogen bulbs.

I do acknowledge the fact that they are illegal. However,I believe that they shouldn't be if projector-type lenses are used.

Looking great.Where did you get those side marker bulbs from? Are they PIAA's?

Just Philip's uprated ones. Can't remember their proper name.

The legality issue doesn't surround the reflector/projector lens type.

The initial issue is the fact there is no washer system fitted - it is this alone which makes after-market HIDs illegal.

Unless of course your can happens to already have a washer system fitted.

Plus the fact that you need an auto-levelling system.:):):)

I apologise, I stand corrected on my statement of the lamp type on Mk2 Octavia :o

Certainly, the Xenon light source is better controlled when used in a projector type unit and probably produces a better headlamp beam.

However, the fact is that without headlamp washers and auto self levelling, they are technically illegal.

I guess that if they don't cause an obvious dazzle problem, you are very unlikely to get pulled up for using these.

Mr Plod and Highways Agency seem to have no problem with allowing one eyed cars and other such more serious defects using the roads.

John.

I have a HIDS4U.co.uk kit in my Octy and i have been stopped by the police and i have my lights on all the time. They didn't even bat an eyelid they just carried out their check of my vehicle (due to my personal plate alerting the ANPR camera as i had only had it on 2 days) docs license etc and let me on my way.

You dont need more than 6k. Anything more is wasted.
