If you're under 25 you can't mod anything, and i mean anything.

Thats abit rubbish:( Any insurance companys that will? im 22 with 2years ncb

Good for normal insurance in my experience, but not really for anything interesting/modded.

We have an insurance site sponsor on here, so could be worth having a chat with them. But insurance for younger drivers with car modifications is never going to be an easy/cheap exercise as you're cutting down the number of companies who will offer you insurance.

what about just changing wheels?

I'm insured through Chris Knott:

chrisknott.co.uk

been with them 2 years, been cheapest by over 100 notes.

They're a broker so your can tell them all your mods and they'll do the searching for you. Its worth giving them a tinkle!

Oh and on my astra I had some after market alloys and an after market stereo... their quote with mods was cheaper than direct line by 1-2 hundred quid with no mods

what about just changing wheels?

It's a change from factory specification isn't it? So an insurance company would consider that a modification.

I'm with Swiftcover and they are not too keen on mods although will cover up to 5k of ICE mods and if you change your wheels as long as you value them under 1k you're OK.

I went with them because it was he only company I could find that would give a realistic quote due to my age. I paid £850 with 2 years NCB fully comp. I need to find another company by the time I renew as I want to add a RARB and a strut brace.

Is it just me, or do they have the most annoying tv ads ever. I wanna stab that topless bloke in the face

Adrian Flux is very mod-friendly.

Although im 33 no problem changing alloys/strut braces. My Dragon box was £20-30 more to declare.

Be honest or after an accident it'll be easy for them to shaft you and find a reason not to pay out.

Quite a few on here are with Brentacre - also worth a try

Just make sure whoever you go with you declare everything

Direct line turned me down for having a cat back exhaust. Think I'm going with Brentacre this year, as they have beat my chriss knott renewal by £180.

Strange as it is, my chriss knott policy and new to be brentacre policy are with the same insurance company highway.

Shows who's making the better profit.

had a bump in my old VRS. Direct line took the car to their repair place in salford. they had the car for a month, no notification as to how the repair was going (i had to ring their repair centre if i wanted to know), i had to argue about getting a courtesy car at the time (Even though the other driver admitted responsibility...) in the end they had the car for a month, the returned it with a badly fitted rear bumper, parking sensors that were not fitted correctly and beeped at random and a rear washer which sprayed at 90 degrees to the car. considering it was a rear end accident i thought this was a p155 poor show.

haven't insured with them since then, and have no intention to in the future!

What was the repair place in Salford? My Mum's with DL and got driven into and her car went there. Neither me or my Dad were that impressed either  - ended up complaining to DL and taking to another repair centre who we knew were good.

Did you complain to DL? If they don't know about the standard of the centres they use isn't upto scratch, then they can't do anything about it.

Seems to happen a lot.....although I am with privelege ( same company as Direct line)

http://briskoda.net/general-car-chat/my-car-has-turned-gold/93664/

I am with direct line - have been for 10 years, and have been happy with the service. In 1996 (when Estelle prices were rock bottom) someone ran into the back of mine, meaning in needed a new rear panel, lights, bumper and paint. They took the car away on a truck to the nearest DL bodyshop (was Reading IIRC) and they went ahead and did the work. The work cost £1100 for a really pukka job (baked and colour match) and I feel that many insurers would have just given me £400 quid and said I was lucky.

They have given me good rates with a loan and reduced rates for a second car insured and have always helped on the phone. I'm not saying they are the best, but they have never let me down and have always answered questions promptly.

By "topless bloke" are you referring to the esteemed Msr. Iggy Pop, one of the key pop-culture icons of recent times?

(And, yesy, the ads are annoying - what has become of him?)

im currently with directline only because of the house insurance+internet discount, last year more than match it, but this year when it runs out i will be going and they know it.

In the two prangs I have had the first when a van hit me at a t junction i had to pay for a courtesy car out of my own money due to the who har. The second one was in my octy when a woman forced me off the road coming the other way, they settled for a 50/50 as the pictures were not admissable as far as they were concerned as the skid marks on the road could have been anyones and they didnt want to upset her insurers. A car was sorted out for the second one but i had to pay the excess when i collected my car from repairs which i didnt on the first even through they told me on the phone i wouldnt have to pay the excess as i wasnt at fault.

Too much hassle these days and from what i could gather at last renewal anything more than a air filter they wont allow. Chris Knott is often mentioned on here as a good insurer, but you will never know how good an insurer are till you really need them and thats when it counts.

Adrian Flux have just called and beat the Brentarce quote, so I took out the policy with them on the spot.

£464, modified, business, the works. MINT!

do NOT go with Liverpool Victoria, i had pure hell with them when i had to claim for my Clio with a 5 GT Turbo engine conversion, lots of mods, all declared with receipts provided, it took 9 months of insane stress to sort out
