Horrible knocking noise from Dashboard

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hope somebody can help. I have a 01 Octavia. Runs great but there is a horrible knocking noise coming from behind the dashboard on the passenger side. It's like something is loose and moving around but I can't locate what seems to be the problem. It's seems to kick off especially when I turn on the heating. I removed the glove compartment and had a look but no joy. I'm not very mechanical and would be uneasy about removing my dashboard myself.

If anybody has any idea as to what it might be, I'd be grateful.

Thanks..

I'm not sure if this matters but I don't have AirCon. Just standard heater. Would this unit still be there? Also when i go over, say a speed ramp, then it moves, it responds to bumps or a uneven surface/road

Probably the V71 air con recirc flap motor, do a search there have been loads of posts about it recently

Yeah! What the hell is going on at the moment! This must be the 4th thread this week! Maybe the cold weather is killing them off, or maybe people only use their fans in the winter, who knows.

I wish I'd taken pictures when I did mine now, and posted them up here with info, but meh.

The Haynes manual attempts to tell you how to do it, but it's not exactly clear.

Thanks..

If you've got a recirculation button somewhere on your heater controls then you will have it. It could be the whole motor or another part which is loose and just needs tightening up. See if you can remove the glovebox and check if anything is moving about behind it.

And Bodge... yeah it is becoming a common fault recently! :thumbdwn: I thought mine was doing it but its the magic tree knocking against the bottom of the rearview mirror :)
