Brakes (Again!) for a vRS

Featured Replies

I know the most popular break upgrade for the vRS is by using the 312mm calipers and carriers off an S3 or equivalent car. However I wanted to know more about other braking options from say Brembo or other manufacturers and how much would they cost.

I'd also like to know about Super Dot brake fluid. I understand it's supposed to be better as it has a higher boiling point but how much better is it over the standard fluid?

And finally a mate of mine who works on my cars recently upgraded the brakes on an Astra VXR and changed the hoses to braided ones. I know it's something to do with not losing pressure but how much benefit would I get if I upgraded the hoses on the vRS? Where would I get the specific hoses for a vRS, I take it someone must have done this before.

Also the braking system on the VXR was by AP Racing and cost him well over £1600

Thanks in advance, sorry it's a messy post. I'm not that technically minded about cars I'm still learning.

Thanks for that. I want to keep the original vRS wheels at least for the time being. Are there any companies out there who do braking kits which are specifically designed for the vRS or equivalent.

I also don't know if this is true but I was told by someone once (not off here) that because the brakes are bigger and fill the wheel more there's more chance of me locking up. Is this true because I've never heard of this before.

i think a set of ferrodo ds2500 pads and a super dot 4 brake fluid change will make a big difference, not noticed any locking up problems on my 312's yet tho

You wont get four pots or anything bigger than 312mm under 16" wheels.

braided hoses should be available from Goodridge

as for the benefits , less spongy pedal, less prone to damage from debris

I have Goodridge braided hoses (not a vRS but will be very much the same...), and can recommend them. Braking feel was improved :)
