n/s wing mirror heater?

Featured Replies

ive noticed numerous times that my n/s mirror takes about 20 minutes to do its stuff while the o/s takes minutes (well in this icy weather, quicker in warmer weather). obviously there is some electrical stuff getting through as it does eventually do its stuff, however it takes too long. Any ideas what it could be or what i could do to speed it up to be the same speed as the o/s (like it use to be) or will it be a case of buying a new one?

I noticed this on mine a few weeks ago. VCDS showed no fault, so I bit the bullet, bought a new one (£30) & replaced it. Works fine now. Looking at the back of the old mirror some of the backing with the heating element in it had peeled away, so i'm guessing this was the cause.

Ah. I'd been wondering about this as I have the same problem, but with my driver's side mirror.

Replacement mirror needed.

hmmm just wondering now if i took it off i gaffer taped the electrical bits that are peeling a way if that will help? also wondering if it was covered by wear and tear?

If you are still under warrenty it's covered as i had one replaced not log after getting the car, so go for it! If not, not sure how gaffa tape would help as it is a film bonded to the back of the mirror that the fixing is then stuck to. So I doubt it would hold it in place or allow it to be refitted. But then if your warranty has run out (like mine!) it's got to be worth a try to save £30!
