Just need to convince the wife

Featured Replies

Hey all

I'm not quite an owner yet, but on paper it looks like I might be soon. Octy (II) vRS hopefully - oil burner.

Ok, here's me:

I have been a member of SCN (u/name TallFella), having owned a Mk1 Leon Cupra for just over 5 years - which I dearly miss. Last year, LadyWayne and I discovered we are having a baby (due any minute now), and on account that I'm 6ft7, and LW is 6ft, the beloved Leon had to go.

I'm currently driving a 55 plate Accord, 2.2cdti and I chuffing hate it - such a boring drive and loathsome interior.

I've always liked the Octy in vRS trim, but have never managed to get the badge past the missus. We're looking to change as the Accord hasn't quite lived up to our hopes in terms of interior space and frugality (and I pretty much hate the car).

Current shortlist (all diesel):

Volvo XC90

Mondeo ST

Saab 9-5

Volvo V70

Octy vRS

I've had loads of people suggest various MPV's (sorry - bad word I know), but it's not headroom that's the problem - it's leg room.

I'm truly hoping that the Octy lives up to the spacious claims as per Parkers, but if anyone's got any first hand knowledge of squeezing lanky feckers into one, I'd be most interested in hearing your plea.

Fingers crossed, and look forward to "chatting" on here.

Wayne

Hello and welcome. Although I'm not quite your height (just short of 6ft) I have no problem getting comfy behind the wheel. Pretty sure we have a few lanky, as you put it, members around here and they seem to fit. Sure one will be along shortely but if not try posting a similar question in the Octavia 2 section.

Hello and welcome,

You and SWMBO will find the Octavia roomy enough. I'm 6'2"3 and there's plenty of space left over:D

And congrats on the new arrival

Get her out on a test drive (Baby permitting) if she liked the LCR she's going to love the Octy!

The Octavia is the thinking person's Golf/Jetta:thumbup:

take her out for a test drive she be easily convinced when you tell her how much cheaper it is for a audi or vw with the same specs ;)

welcome to briskoda

Another 6 footer here. Welcome :)

Cheers for the welcome dudes (and possibly dudettes - so difficult to tell on t'forums).

Slight problem is that LW hates test drives - even when buying her own car (Polo) I amost had to force her to test drive it. Oh, and she didn't really like driving my LC - said it fealt big (not the first time I've heard her say that ;)). However, when I had a 24hr test drive of the new Leon FR with flappy paddles she loved it. Confused? Yeah, me too.

I think once she sits in one and sees the quality of the materials/build, she'll be impressed. Just got to hope it fits. Me "fitting" into cars isn't the real problem, it's what happens behind me. Because I have to have the drivers seat right back, it often leaves chuff all room behind me - unless your name's Vern Troyer of course.

Looking forward to have a good nose around these pages - cheers for now.

Nope............She Who Must Be Obeyed!!!

Hello & welcome by the way!!

Edit:

If you do put in a abbreviation, there should be some dots under it and if you hover the pointer on it, the meaning will appear......apparently
