Transmission Noise - Wheel bearing

Featured Replies

I have a noise, I thought, from the front wheel bearings. I changed them this weekend and the noise is still there! It is relative to road speed in any gear and unaffected by load or acceleration etc. It sounds like the whine that older cars had from the differential. I was wondering if a worn bush or mounting would transfer transmission noise to the chassis and into the cab. Any help based on experience or ideas will be appreciated.

I have something similar. It sounds similar to KITT's (from original Knight Rider) engine sound and started happening very pronounced when i swapped the tires from the back to the front recently.

Rear weel bearings are common on these and give that noise. Have you jacked the front up, switch off ASR (if you have it) and run the vehicle wheels in the air to see if you can hear it? Diff noise is also possible. Isolating the rear end like this can help.

Greg.

You didn't happen to swap the tyres front to back at the same time did you? Depending on the wear pattern that can give an unusual noise until they wear into the front wheels pattern.

I hope that makes sense.
