Emissions workshop! Skoda stealer diagnostic results

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

About 5 days ago as I was driving to work I got the message "Emissions workshop!" + the engine management light came on with long beep. I thought to myself Oh dear...! as you do. :thumbdwn:

I looked around the forum trying to work out could that be and must admit not a lot of info, mosty mixed opinions. I rung up the local stealer(20 miles away) booked the car in and had it plugged to the old computer for a diagnostic report.

They say: Error showing from the fuel temp sensor and they don't know if fauly or just a error. They did a reset on the ECU(I could have done that myself) and that about it I asked how much will it cost if sensor should be at fault...£13 - £14, dunno if VAT inc. or not + labour ofc.

I asked if the there is a error showing with my parking sensors as they stopped working some time ago(see my previous post), they said no. Apparently if they are not factory fitted they won't show up on the diagnostics. How can I tell?? I know there is an option in the CD/Satnav menu where I can change the volume for the parking sensors does that mean they bare factory fitted? The sensors are fitted on the cromed/black strip on the rear bumper.

Details of the car: Superb Elegance, 1.9TDI, July 2005.59K

Many thanks all!!

Surely an Elegance July 2005 should have factory fit sensors?

If the satnav can control them, they must be on the bus somewhere and findable...

Does it squeal when you put the car in reverse, or has the unit gone totally silent?

Parking sensors subject:

Ignition start -> Engage reverse -> Long beeeeeeep(about 3-5 seconds) -> drive/neutral -> reverse again -> .... silence.

same again after ignition off/on again.

I would like to point out that after my 1st post regarding the parking sensors they started to work for about 1 week or so and then dead again. At 1st I thought it had something to do with the reverse passenger side mirror that when engaged moves down when reversing ...but it poved me wrong. Could be ...wet sensor, wires etc?

Have had exact same problem four times in 2 yrs. Always a faulty sensor and replaced under warranty.

(I could have done that myself)

You have VAGCOM/VCDS?

Sounds like a sensor.

It is normal to only get the long beep the first time you select reverse with a faulty sensor.

Hi all,

I owe you all an apology, claming that I can change the parking sensors vol. was a mistake, it's the satnav I was thinking about.

I don't VAGCOM/VCDS Lummox.

I can I tell if factory fitted or after by some dealer. Stealer saying that after diagnostics the only error was with the fuel temp. sensor.

The car is on 59350 miles so today I'll book it in for a cambelt change £384 ... and hopefully they'll pick on parking sensors as well.

I'll keep you posted.

Surely an Elegance July 2005 should have factory fit sensors?

 They certainly do

*Surprise*

I rung up local Skoda dealer "Carrs Skoda" in Bridgwater and they told me the the cambelt not due until 75k, Skoda policy. :orb_phone

So it's not 60K after all ... hmmmm

10 min later, just rung up the 2nd stealer SMC Skoda in Exeter and they said 74.5 - 75K

Ring VW for a price when you need it done, they are sometimes cheaper and have better knowledge of the car, hth.

For your car that is correct, they changed the interval IIRC from 2005 cars - there is still the "every 4 years" bit though.

Oh no it's not ;), it's about emmissions ,emminating from anything (or anyone ):D

The fuel temp sensor is the grey 2 pin in the plastic fuel rail, takes about 2 minutes to fit with no specialist tools. VWG will sell you the sender already in the housing with 2 small pipes on the end. The cheapest way to do it is just ask the dealer for a 2 pin grey COOLANT temp switch. It comes on its own without the unwanted housing. It's exactly the same sensor.

Funny that, stealer told me that would take 30 min. to 1 hour .. OMG !!

S H A M E!!!!

We carry them on the van, and is literally 1 plug 1 clip and refit. It takes longer to do all the paperwork then to fix the car :):):)

Can someone post a picture of where this sensor is located pls? Driving in to work last night I got the engine management + the so common now "Emmisions workshop!". It looks like I have to replace the fuel temp sensor and see what happens.

Many thanks all for your help!!

Did you get this sorted in the end? Did a new fuel temp sensor sort out the error?

Mine's doing the same thing now. My local specialist plugged it in at it came back with the Fuel temp sensor - they reset it to see how I got on, and it stayed off for 2 days before coming back on. Of course it came back on once all the Skoda dealers were shut on a Saturday. Stuff always seems to happen at the weekend or a bank holiday when the garages are shut :(
