Should there be a hole in my boot floor?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to trace down a leak in my Octavia. I've stripped out the boot (it was soaking!) & I noticed that there is a hole in the spare wheel well right through to the road (see attached pic).

I don't think this is the cause of the leak but I was wondering if there is meant to be a grommet there.

I thought I saw another thread asking the same question a couple of weeks ago but I'm damned if I can find it!

Probably should be a small bung in it, a bit like the other 4 holes that have bungs in already. :)

Is that not the drain hole.

I'm not sure there should be a hole. Is it painted?

Anyway, I had a bootful of water on my A3. After investigation, I found that down behind the trim, the rear quarter panel had several pints of water in it, and it overflowed into the wheel well. Looking further, I found a blocked drain bung in there. Took it out, and all the water ran out. Washed all the mud out of the bung, and it was fine for a year, then blocked again...

That's what I thought. It's about at the lowest point. If I block it up, there will be no drainage from the boot.

The only thing is; I've been in my boot a lot recently for various reasons & I don't remember seeing a hole.

Yes, I think so. No marks on it like there had been a grommet there previously.

Interesting. Anyone know if the Octavia has a similar drain here. I have to remove some more trim (already got boot empty & back seats out!) to continue trying to trace my leak, so I'll look out for this, thanks.

my boot is exactly the same as that mate, its the lowest point so im assuming its the drain point, otherwise if it did fill up the boot would rot rather rapid,

and you would see your spare and toolkit bouncing down the road from your rear view mirror

Thanks for that.

I've found the other thread I mentioned above. It's here. RichB86 & mluton both also state they have no plug there, so unless others post that their's is definitely plugged I'm going to assume it's a standard drain hole.

yup no plug afaik meant to be there.

There is no part number for a plug just the other 40mm ones so yes the hole is meant to be there.
