52 reg 1.4 mpi tyre suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hello again,

When i got my car there was a split in the spare so i requested it was changed. So instead of them just changing that, they replaced all 4 tyres and put the best 'old' on the spare. Well obviously they used the cheapest tyres they could find. To be honest, i think they are made out of harder plastic than my dash!

Well, the ABS kicks in even if you sneeze on the break lever when its wet and i've had the wheels spin in 2nd when nipping out of junctions! However, they seem reasonabley fine in the dry. I think they are the same as standard fabia tyres (say the same tyre in the skoda dealer for £30 fitted per wheel).

Anyway, anyone got any reccomendations for decent tyres? I don't want to be spending £80 on 1 tyre, but i don't want to be paying £30 for each tyre just to find they are just as crap as my current ones (Nexen something or other). They don't have to be super duper long lasting as i only plan on keeping the car for a year (VRs next year? ;)) but obviously i want to get more than 200 miles out of them.

Thanks

Matt

mpi has abs?

What size are they? If they are the same as our 1.9 TDI (100Hp) i.e. 185/60 14 then I would recommend Vredestein Hi-Tracs. Vredstestiens allways win or come close in Auto-express tyre tests and the Hi-tracs won the test in that size a couple of years ago. We also have a pair of Quatrac 2 all season/winter tyres which are brilliant on snow/slush. I wish they made something simular in my size for the vRS as the Goodyear F1s are absolute pants when it gets cold. I've had wheelspin (well Traction Controll light come on) in 4th gear on hard frost, but there are too many threads about vRS Tyres. Price wise, well I think they were both were approx £40 each when we bought them early last year.

The only problem is they could be hard to find so ring around or look on there website and/or ring them up as they are very helpfull.

Thanks for that, i plan on getting tyres cheaper off the t'interweb and then getting them fitted by whoever is the cheapest.

How are Dunlop tyres? I don't know the specific model but the local skoda dealer (DM Keith in huddersfield for those that know it) are doing dunlop tyres for £54 per wheel fitted.

Going by michelins website, my tyres are 165/70/14 (i'm to lazy to go outside at the moment, but i will confirm tomorrow). Can anyone reccomend any online place to get tyres? (not sure if they are as common as motorcycle tyres online, as i guess they are a bit harder to post)

Kablam - Yes, it does have ABS.
