Headlight-on reminder alarm not working

Featured Replies

Some months ago this useful beep stopped working. In the past week I have been in at work early and left the parking lights on, a couple of times, resulting in a dead battery at the end of the day. All the other warning buzzers seem to be working. Have used the search already and found only two other posts about this problem, but no fix is mentioned. What do I need to look at? A connection from the light switch, a buzzer behind the dash somewhere? I'd really like to get this fixed. I'll be doing my rear door seals at the weekend, weather permitting, may as well look into the warning buzzer.

I had a problem with the door sensor, the gave off that same symptoms. A quick clean of the doors and latches fixed it.

Hello.

To add my penny worth my buzzer failed, luckily it was still under warranty so it was a freebie fix.

Skoda said they had to replace complete speedo unit as buzzer was intergrated into it.

They replaced the complete speedo and replaced my mileage onto new speedo.

Wrong Data

Haynes only shows one buzzer -as said by giandougl ,it's on the speedo unit .No sign of anything else ,or connections to the buzzer in the manual .Also as said -it looks feasible to use a buzzer from the doorswitch to the light switch (put a diode in series to stop current feeding via relay to control unit when doors open )

If there is only one buzzer that can't be the problem as it sounds if I drive off with the hand brake on or if I run low on fuel. So I need to check the sensor in the door latch?

Hello,

VWD has a good point to heed, and I add the following to help.

My buzzer would not work when side-light switch was switched "ON" , then turning ignition "OFF" withdrawing the ignition key, and opening drivers door.

( The buzzer is integrated into the speedo, which means new speedo, mine was renewed under warranty.)

Because your interior light comes on does not necessarily mean buzzer detects it.

However, the link is the drivers door (earth) and light switch/ sidelight feed cable.

Perhaps use power from the light switch/side-light feed wire and use the door as an earth, with a buzzer between ?

In theory, when the drivers door is opened it made an "Earth" connection, and power drawn from the light switch/ side-light feed cable making a "Live" connection, a buzzer could be activated.

Until you switched the light switch "OFF" and break the power link, and so, silence the buzzer.

Finding the feed wire to sidelights when switch is in "ON" position will probably be a task, but well worth the effort on saving money and accomplish the goal. Good-luck.

You could start by looking at back of side-light to see colour wire which feeds side-light.

You could make a good 'T' connection from this feed wire, and trail a cable into drivers cabin area to a buzzer where it could be heard easily.

If your interior lights come on with when you open the drivers door the switch should be OK.

My interior lights do come on when I open the drivers door.
