Strut brace

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have fitted the Forge stratbar for the first time and the car has been transformed. The steering feels stiffer, more responsive, more feedback. All good so far, except I`m experiencing understeer  especially at roundabouts and sharp bends. Is this something common?:confused:any comments welcome:thumbup:

Just to clarify here, did you fit the Forge (front) strut brace, or the rear one that is a beam in the boot?

happens with my car, not sure if its due to the strut brace tho, but only happens in the wet, i get great handling in the dry.

(i have a seat sport front strut brace fitted)

It is the front one.

Well, since i fitted it was raining or roads were damp anyway.maybe it is something to do with the tyres as well.:mad:hope it will be good in the dry...

I've got a front strut brace and a rear stability bar and have found it sticks great in the dry and a bit understeery in the rain

Good fun tho................;)

It understeers like a pig anyhow but making the bodyshell stiffer will only make that worse anyhow.

The rear ARB helps a bit, but it remains a heavy lump up front - so you have to drive accordingly :)

I already have ARB, so i guess i just have to get on with it....:P and scare my misses :shocked:she screams!!!:D and get better tyres as i`m running:rally: Falcon at the moment.

Sorry for the slight hi-jack but do front arbs help at all? I know the golf lot normally get 25mm rear and 23mm front, on here people seem to just get the 25mm rear...

Stiffening the front is unlikely to help with understeer, especially in the wet.

Best options would be -

1) Good or better tyres.

2) 4 wheel alignment.

If doing option 2, I'd like to know if there are recommended fast road or sport settings. I know certain things are or are not meant to be adjustable but everything has a tolerance or fit that can be gently tweaked.

Personally, I'd vote for more castor and a smidge of negative camber if it's possible to achieve.

a better option than either of the above is fit an lsd, they really do help the car not understeer:thumbup:

ask your local dealer for some lsd stickers, place on tongue.....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW :D;)

I notice whiteline sell an anti-lift kit for golfs and they are really popular amongst the scooby lot. Perhaps they do one for the fabia as well?

how much money would i be looking at for an LSD for a Fabia VRS?

You'd want an ATB (torque biasing diff) not a Limited Slip Diff.

Check out Peloquin and Quaife. I'd try the sponsors for quotes, see what is currently available.

The problem is that the exchange rates really work against you at the moment.

I know there would be 'adjusting' to getting used to with/without it, but what about fitting a front strut brace for summer months and removing it for winter months?
