TDi PD Engine in Octavia

Featured Replies

When do you think it will happen?

I went into my local skoda dealership yesterday to enquire about swapping my 98R Audi A4 Avant to a new Octavia Estate TDi. The trade in they offered on my audi was crap! and i left a little dissapointed.

So, should i wait for the PD engine to be released? or get an octavia now?

Cheers

Phil.

BTW...the Audi is a TDi 110 SE, with 43K miles and full supplying uk dealer history, ex-demo then family owned by my father and then myself, and has optional front sport seats and centre armrest and towbar (never used). Anyone want it for more than

Hi and welcome.

Where abouts in Cheshire? Reason I ask is there are several dealers in the region, some are better than others, eg one would not budge 50 quid for me, but another budged 2k under other dealer!

Timing and stock played into that situation, but as with movies some are better than others, despite being the same thing.

Now as to the car, nice Audi as a part x. The PD is generally thought to be better than the TD, swings and roundabouts I guess, the new engine model, should push the stock out of the TDi and dealers must now that. Do you have any modifications in mind? if so the PD might be better for you. If not and we all understand if not, then the TDi would make fiscal sense for the right part x.

Hear from you soon,

Parkers has your Audi at A1-10740, Fair-6785, Trade-8245. Sounds like you were offered the bare trade price. Room for some negotiation certainly if it's in nice nick. And no, I don't want it thanks - not a big Audi fan :D

Welcome to Briskoda, Phil! You would be in a much better position to negotiate a discount if you sold your Audi privately first. Some members have managed excellent discounts, but my gut feeling is that you would be unlikely to do so well on an Octavia with the long-anticipated PD engine.

But whatever you do, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how good the Octavia Estate is - and by the lower running costs for a car which shares a substantial number of parts with its Audi and VW siblings. :D

PS Don't forget to have a look at the 4X4 Estate! It may not have a diesel engine but it does have lots of goodies vRS owners would die for. :D

Hi, i'm from sunny warrington too (guessing from your location).

The dealer was gorners (also went to drool over the brabus cars) do you rate them? Where else can i try?

Is there a PD engined octavia out yet? The brochure only shows 90 & 110 versions of the TDI, but the fabia gets the 100 PD (and soon 130 PD, as i have read as a vRS) the superb also gets the PD engines (100 & 130). I want to aviod buying a 110 version Octavia now, only for a 130 version to be released in a few months time.

My dads new audi has the 130 engine, and i really would prefer to wait for that engine to be released, if it is being released?

Cheers

Phil.

Just answered my questions whilst i was typing.....thanks

I'm tempted by the L&K version, lots of nice extra's, which you have to pay extra for at other VW 'brands'.

They actually offered me

Phill,

My first gut feeling was that you were in Warrington!

Gorners are a nice new dealership, but at a price IMHO. They came about from a split in a Merc Dealership, they did alot of leg work for me to be fair. But they offered rock bottom part x, which is where Dealer #1 below made the ground up in addition to coming down on list for a new (but registered) vehicle.

The delaers that bent over backwards to do a deal for currently registered stock were these guys:

We have an arrangement with this dealer for servicing discounts so you might be able to swing somthing:

From what you have said (I was going to suggest a drive in a VAG PD to get a feeling for them, no need I guess) the PD would be worth waiting for. It is coming to the range, hopefully we'll know here before the dealer network and of course the nitty gritty that a dealer does not know.

Let us know how you go on...the PD engines BTW can be turned into torque monsters when the insurance permits...

Having the 110bhp engine in your current car you know how good it is. I haven't sampled any of the PD engines as yet but apparently (from motoring mags) they can be a bit noiser (something to do with the pumps).

I imagine you probabyl would get a better deal on a TDi once the

It's certainly in the UK already at press level:-

Auto Express reviewed a UK model 130PD Octavia Estate with the 6 speed box 3 weeks ago.

If its anything to go off the pre-reviews they did on the vRS estate before launch, they should be taking orders about now for early delivery ?

Shame about the insurance stopping you getting a 4x4 - I'm seriously impressed with mine after owning other "better" cars.

Actually you could use that to your advantage couldn't you ? :-

1.Pick a dealer with a diesel and a 4x4 in 'stock'.

2. Get the best deal that the dealer will offer on both (the diesel will not be as good as the 4x4).

3. Get insurance quotes for both

4. Get the dealer to discount the 4x4 by the cost of the extra insurance, above whatever he offered.

They can sell the diesels easily but if you are serious, they won't let you walk away easily on the 4x4

Worth a go ?

When my Dad sold his A4, he only got

Stop pressing the tab key, SkodiRS!!!!

Mitchell Skoda in Frankby offered me a great deal when I bought my TDI elegance h/back. Worth a try. I can not remember the sales woman's name though.

Thanks for your help everyone,

I've got some more searching to do now, and some more places to try.

I'm now thinking do i really need a diesel?

Cheers

Phil

And These are ???

As described elsewhere on many, many occasions, including a better range of colours which excludes Lemon Yellow!

Probably not - how about a 1.6? :D

Budget allowing, the Superb with the PD engine looks rather

nice...

Rob.

Are you sure you can't stretch to the 4x4? I get 37mpg on Mways, which is good enough for the mileages I do.

I'm just north of Manchester, on the M61, if you want an extended blast out give me a shout.

Hmm...my "2" reading for average MPG has now dropped to

29.9! :o

Route to work has changed from being a steady cruise round the

motorway to accelerating from roundabout to roundabout along

A-roads (some quite fun roundabouts though!)...

Time to chop it in for a motorbike methinks... :D

I have heard the PD engine is going to be made availible in the Elegance Octavia , but what about the 4x4 , is that still 1.8T only? ...and the L&K , does anyone know whether it will be getting the PD motor? If only they done a 4x4 150 PD L&K id consider trading in the RS , and this time i think id like to try the estate version (Cayenne met paint too!)

You could try Riding & Co Skoda in Preston. Their prices seemed fairly good when I traded in my old Astra and I got a good PX.

I took my car in on Monday and they had quite a bit of new stock, including some pre-registered & nearly new TDI's and a couple of vRS's.

Graham.
