It's a shame there's no Ryan Champion on the list, although his ex co-driver, Craig Thorley has entered. At least there is at least one proper car entered, a Metro 6R4, and of course 1 Skoda.

I think I am being dragged out to one of the stages, possibly Riccal Dale or Roppa, but it's the same one I did last year.

Late entry

Hugh Hunter, Focus WRC car 3 :)

Yes Tim Pearcey will have his work cut out.. not too much snow, we don't want it cancelling...

Will look out for ya car, think my Occy VRS is staying at home and will be in a Astra Nurenburg

Does that Astra frequent Morrisons at Ripon on occasions? Think I've seen it in the car park there!

Heard this morning that the rally is in doubt because of snow in the forest's, and a decision was going to be made today if to run it or not...

Just been to Thirsk myself this morning and it's white over, snowing like hell.

It don't look good :(

Not sure, there's a couple in Ripon area.

I hope your right :)

Think the weather is warming up Sunday / Monday, need it to rain all night to wash the bloody stuff away.

Official statment from the clark of the course.

We are still running, final route check tomorrow, but weather forecast is for warmer weather Saturday/Sunday so we don't anticipate a problem.

I am afraid to say guys but the rally is cancelled.

Ripon Motor Sport Club - Riponian Rally 2009

Much to the regrets of the organising team we have to announce the cancellation of the Riponian Rally scheduled for this Sunday.

The following is a communication received from the Forestry Commission earlier today.

‘We have had a look at the roads that we can get to and unfortunately we do not feel that it is safe to run the rally in these conditions. We will therefore not be issuing a permission to hold the event this weekend.’

Alan Hill

The forrestry commision really don't get what rallying is all about!!!!!!!!

I don't think the forrestry commision realise how much work goes into organising the rally and how popular it is...

Shame about that :(

Might have to try and get to Blackpool for North West Stages next week... or look forward to the Humberside I suppose.

Go out sat night and drowned my sorrows.

Its a full years work to set up a multi-venue stage rally plus a lot of expence!!! Ripon are trying to sort another date to run the event, so fingers crossed.

Simon

It's a shame that the rally is cancelled due to the white stuff on the ground, I'm sure by Sat afternoon it would have all gone. We got an e-mail this afternoon from the Stage Commander of one of the stages, saying it was stopped due to, not allowing Snowploughs into forests!! :D

I can remember a few years running the event in snow with no problems. It also reminds me 10-15 years ago when the RAC (when it was a proper rally not just South Wales) at Cropton or Gale Rig was cancelled due to the snow, but all the marshals had got there and driven through the stage on standard road tyres.

I now look forward to Rallycross at Croft on Sunday March 22.

Simon

Another date would be excellent :)

Think they have to apply to the MSA for a slot to run it, nothing's ever straight forward. Lets just hope they pull it off, and include Ligh****er Valley again... maybe now I'm asking for too much :D

Light water Valley even.... god knows why thats been blocked, the worlds gone mad!

  • Author

I don't think that light water valley will feature in any future RMSC events, plus most of the crews were pleased to see the back of it. I did it about 10 years ago and didn't enjoy the place at all.
