New owner with problem filling up

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm a new owner of a 2006 Skoda Suberb 2.5 V6 diesel automatic and I'm having real problems filling the tank. Every 2 seconds the pump nozzle will click off as the blowback sensor is cutting out. I've been to two petrol stations and had exactly the same problem. It took 25 minutes just to fill the tank half way and its getting annoying.

The pump nozzle will not go all the way in and it seems to be obstructed by a plastic bar dividing the filler pipe. Is this normal?

Am I doing something wrong?

Update. I've added some pics of the fuel filler where you can see there is a plastic bit dividing the tube in two. Now, the pump nozzle will not go past this and this is quite far up the tube. The fuel splashes on this and the sensor from the pump nozzle kicks in. Can other Superb owners tell me if they have this restriction when filling up. Its driving me mad

Adding picture of fuel filler

Which two garages did you use? I've noticed some of the garages around the Reading area are setting their anti blowback things to completely psychotic levels...

I've always found if it starts doing this, pull the pump about halfway out and use 50-75% 'throttle' on the bugger :)

Hi, I filled up in a BP garage in Birmingham and an Esso garage is south London.

Yes, I'll try pulling the pump out some more, although it only goes in about 75% of the way. Any more than 10% throttle and the pump cuts out. I'll give it another go in the next few days and see what happens.

Cheers, Matt

Try putting the nozzle in at a sideways angle as it may help it breath.

alot of the supermarket garages have this problem always thought it was a problem with the pump not the car

Start filling slowly and then increase the rate slowly until it's pumping at maximum.

Works for me when I have this problem.

Looking at the pics now posted by the OP, I'm sure there's nothing like that in my filler pipe (though I'll look when I leave work tonight).

I think the OP would like to know whether other owners (esp of 2006 diesel V6 models) have the same obstruction - or whether the previous owner fitted some sort of anti-syphoning theft device.

Or I could be talking complete piffle, but I have just finished a Friday 'working lunch'. Hic. :D

Cheers:cheers:

I have a 2005 Nov V6 TDI. I have no problems at all filling up. Have just checked mine regarding the pics on here and I do have a piece of white plastic inside the filler that does separate into two halves. However it appears to be further down the filler pipe. Is it possible that it has moved up towards the top?

having clicked on the image for a larger looksy - it definitely HAS moved up towards the top of the filler. The separation bit on mine is a good 4 to 5 inches down from the top.

Hope this helps.

Update: Problem Solved! :)

I went to a different petrol station at the weekend to have another go at filling up and as long as I keep the pump nozzle only just inside the filler tube, it works. Thanks for all your replies.

Glad to hear your'e all sorted.

I'm coming into this a bit late, but for what it's worth I've got the plastic "divider" as well... and as for pump problems I just either use a different station or the "removal method" discussed above.
