Falkens or Kumhos

Featured Replies

I'm getting 2 new tyres for the rear this weekend and am just ordering them online to be mobile fitted. Both the Falken 452s and Kumho KU31s are coming out fairly cheaply and I know a lot of people on here rave about both. The Kumhos are (suprisingly) about a tenner cheaper for the pair than the Falkens. I am happy to go for either really but what does everyone think?

I had Falken 512 on my Fabia VRS......... " Didn't go out when it was raining ".......Kumhos or Uniroyal Rainsports, Fantastic Dry/Wet tyre

I killed a set of Kumho's on the front in just over 4k and I was trying too be nice too them.

They weren't too bad in the wet imo. Never again though I'm sold on toyos now as I can just short of 10k out of a front set and 2-3 times that on the rears.

What prices are you being quoted ???

I had Falken 512

I had these on my octy, terrible wet performance, bordering on dangerous tbh.

I had a set of 40 profile Falkens on a previous car sometime back and the side walls developed many splits (parallel with the circumference) and although there was tread remaining, they failed a MOT, so I wouldn't go back to them. Kumhos I've used had been hard wearing and offered reasonable grip. As some above say, I too am now sold on Toyo's, softer compound but excellent grip performance.

Kuhmos  I'm very happy with my KU31's. I don't push the car very hard but on the odd occasion when I've done some spirited driving these tyres do impress. Wet weather driving is fine and I prefer them to the Michellins I used to have

£156 for the pair of Kumhos, or £165 for the pair of Falken 452s.

I don't think I'll have too much problems with them wearing out as I tend to drive like a granny and my current rears were almost shot when I bought the car a year ago and are still legal despite me doing over 10k miles and 4 laps of the Nurburgring in the meantime  I would buy Toyos but the sites I've tried are quoting about £230 for a pair of Proxes (T1-R or CF-1).

The other option I have are Kumho KH31s instead of the KU31s, which are £185

Neither....I am in the market for 4 new tyres as soon as I have the money looked at Falken FK452 as I have had these before and liked them, Kumho KU31 and Toyo T1-R and after much deliberating I am going for Hankook V12 Evo's.

Kumho KU31's all the way.

I'm still running mine (they need changing as they are now on the wear bar) after 25,000miles. I do alot of motorway miles, but they have also been around the 'ring a few times!

Even wear and good in the wet. Although now they have worn down they aint much good through standing water or snow!!

The price you have been quoted seems good, except the CF1 toyos are are a midrange tyre iirc.

You should be able too get 2 T1R's for £100 each fitted, I got them for £95 recently and I thought that was a little step, but they are worth it, in dry conditions I get no spinning in first where as every other tyre I have tried could never match this.

I had the KU31's which as said were eaten alive in 4 months, I was not happy, you may have better results.

Edit.........Forget any of these tyres in the the snow lol they are all useless, but then how often does it snow.

I'm leaning towards the Kumhos at the moment, but will definately check prices on those Hankooks

Someone in the trade told me that khumo's are made by pirelli. Same design, but slightly softer material so good performance but slightly higher wear rate. Any one else head this?

I have KUMHO 712 88W on mine. Not bad for a reasonably priced tyre. I got 2x 225/40/18's for £106 "not" fitted.

Those Hankooks aren't a bad price - £69 each from Camskill, but that's not fitted - probably looking at about the same price as the Kumhos / Falkens (or more) once I add fitting at a tyre place on top.

I have got the Hankook Ventus V12 fitted all round on my Golf and I am really impressed with them, done about 6000 miles on them usually on wet roads.

The Hankook V12 got some really good write ups in the German car press but they don't get much press here in the UK. If you have a look at the pdfs below the Hankook's beat the Kumhos in one test and the Toyos in the other, shame the Falkens aren't tested. The only tyre they don't beat is the Goodyear.

Price up the Toyo T1-r's at Camskills, you may be surpried at the price for a top qaulity tyre., as any local tyre place will usually fit and balance for about £10.

ive got 4 kumhos on mine and they are brilliant they are a soft tyre so wear will be faster but again depends how you drive

Well I've bitten the bullet and ordered the Kumhos. The Toyos are quite tempting but even from Camskills and fitted on the cheap they are £20 more each than the Kumhos, and since they're going on the back not the front, I'm not too fussed - but will hopefully put Toyos on the front when those need replacing.

Got my KUMHO 712 88W from Camskill. Best place i think for a wide range of tyres.

I've got the Hankook V12 evo's on the front of mine & I think they are great:thumbup: I can't compare them to the others as I came off budget tyres, but they have been really good so far in the wet & supprisingly so far in the snow.:D

Thanks for that as it reinforces my decision  They have surprisingly good ratings for snow grip, much better than the other 3 tyres I had looked at and are comparable or slightly better than the others for wet and dry as well.

Also the German reviews looked good.

I guess you never really know until they are on the car though but I look forward to trying them out

Will probably have them on by next week if not the week after.

I went with the reviews too. I spent ages deciding which make to get. I was recomended by my local tyre fitters about the Hankook so It made my decision easier. I'm going to replace the other two with the same, Hankook Evo's, but I'm going to get those from Camskill this time.

Mine are 18'' tyres & they are only £77 each from Camskill. The first pair cost me £112 each, fitted & balanced. So a saving from Camskill even including the fitting & balancing charge on top:D

Mine are 18's too and I am also going to camskill. Can get them fitted for £10 a corner so comes to £358 all in

Ive got KU31's all round, LOVE EM!
