To The Future....

OK then guys what in an ideal world would be Skoda's next car if it wasn't part of VAG. What would be the ideal line up?

Some sort of coupe.

I'd like to add a coupe, and some more Carlos Fandango big power or torque 4wd etc variants.

They could always actually make the Tudor. Oh, hang on, VAG did and called it the Bentley Continental!

I reckon the Joyster would have been a cool car but instead it came out as the Sirrocco. How however you spell it!

Yeah, if the Joyster had been badged as a Skoda and priced like an Octy I'd have thought about one. Badged as a Scirocco and priced like a Golf GTi, FIP.

Re-baddged Audi RS4 at Skoda prices..............

if Skoda weren't part of VAG (and never had been?) their next car would probably be a load of pap and 90%(+?) of the people on this forum wouldn't own one

:)

Strangely enough my first encounter with a Skoda was in the 70's - easy to work on , nice to drive ,and once we'd sorted out the starting problems (someone had forgotten to tighten up the dizzy) -not too bad .

Then although we joked about them al those years ago -just how many have we ever seen broken down at the side of the road .

I'd like some sort of coupe, like the Audi A5, or a people carrier. A proper one though, not a Touran type! Something big that you can fit 7 people in, with a decent diesel engine...Zafira VXR power with Diesel economy :)

A 3 door!!!

A 2.7 diesel like the A6. More powahhhh.

The Tudor is the Audi A5... not big enough to be the CGT.

Skoda should stay with VAG. Without the VAG backing, Skoda would have fallen. They make well built, comparatively cheap, good cars.

It all depends what you want from a car, really.

I'd have an Octavia over a Jetta, but the A4 would be better (rhyme not intended!). But I'd rather the Golf over the A3. And the Fabia over the Polo :)

they should re do the 130r what with porsche now being in the vag group there is an ideal platform and engine lurking roung somewhere:D

Just had this dilema myself. In the end went for the Jetta. its much better looking IMHO. But you get more kit on an Elegance octy for roughly the same money. As you say, it depends what you want.

I'd only ever go for the Octavia vRS, and there's no equivalent model with the Jetta. The US-market Jetta GLI has GTI-esque skirts etc and looks the parts, but I'd have to source them to bolt on to a 2.0 TSI Jetta.

You are correct in that there is no direct equivalent, however i am sure that the Jetta 2.0 T FSI is the same performance as a Golf GTi but lower insurance group and is more of a wolf in sheeps clothing so to speak. For me it was always going to be the 2.0 Tdi, first i thought it would end up being the SE but then i found a nice Sport spec - no cruise etc but bigger wheels, lower, harder suspension, better seats and front fogs. Wonder how much a 2.0 T FSI Jetta goes for in comparison to a vRS octy?

Edit- Just had a look on Autotrader and there are two for sale, both 57 plate one with around 11k miles, one with 6k miles - both £12k.

How does that compare with an Octy vRS of the same age?

In reply to the original post, i think it would be good if Skoda did a 2 seat roadster type thing. Suppose they could base it on the TT maybe???

A lot cheaper than an Octy... however, like I said, I'd have to spend money on "tarting it up" a bit. The Octy's got the spoiler, bumpers etc.

US-market Jetta GLI:

Like a big Golf GTI, really... I'd have one of them over the Octy!

Looks well nice that. I don't think it would cost too much though to get a similar effect. I have seen a nice boot lip spoiler for £60 that i will be getting once i get the car, they even come pre-painted in your cars colour if you tell them the paint code. Thats my first mod.

This is mine :-

Mostly it's the band end I have an issue with, it needs to be bolder, a spoiler and skirts etc :)

Very nice colour though!

A twin turbo would be nice.

Got it in one.
