new earphones for my ipod

Featured Replies

come on im looking for some new earphones for my ipod, currently have "V moda" which do the trick but just looking around for some more that are not expensive and have good sound etc.

JVC in ear ones are nice.

I currently have Shure E2C for ipod and V moda Vibe duo for iphone and i do prefer the v-moda ones.

My boss has god knows how many pairs (10+) and rates the Denon ahc351 at the lower end and Klipsch at the higher end.

Sennheiser CX400.

Sennheiser CX400.

Second that....very good earphones

Sennheiser CX400.

The CX300's are also pretty good. :)

I can't recommend the Etymotic Research ER6i earphones highly enough. Great bass, mid and treble and very comfortable to wear for a long time (4+hours at a time) You can get these for about £65 i think now and they are worth every penny. They make an iPod sound like it should!!!

If you are made of money then the ER4's are supposed to be fantastic, but they are reference headphones so tend to sound a little flat to some.

Best place to check out reviews is iLounge.com

7dayshop have some Sonys in their clearance department - £10.99 delivered - bargain ! White as well.

7dayshop.com - Online Store

Only one review, but it's 5 star

Also available at Play.com for £17.99 (4 star review)

Mainly good reviews at Amazon as well

If like me you can't get on with the ear canal types then I would recommend Sennheiser mx660's.

Second that....very good earphones

Agreed

The CX300's are also pretty good. :)

 quite cheap on Amazon too. But beware the fakes in the marketplace.

Shure SE210's......but at about £60....would help if you could define "not too expensive"......

KOSS Sparkplug - Cheap and great sound, their longevity is a bit hit and miss IMHO though, but i do use them in the gym, running, on the bike etc...

I know this is an old thread. Just got some Sennheiser CX300 and I have to say I'm really disappointed. They're mediocre at best to my ears. I've got them fitting well and bass is there, but it's just muddled, not clear and certainly doesn't have kind of expansive soundfield my old Sony ones had.

I know headphones are a personal thing, but considering how crap these sound to me yet how everyone seems to rave about them, I'm wondering if there's something wrong with mine  :(

SkullCandy are taking over the market at the moment. If you want cheap -I would suggest the in-ear ones above.

If not - I would suggest somthing more like this:

G.I. [gi] : Skullcandy

Much better for your ears and such good sound quality.

Thanks Rob.

If I wanted open ear cans, I'd be using my Sennheiser HD 650. Now those are good ;) But a bit pricey and far too much of a theft magnet :(

Maybe I'll just get another set of Sony ones as I know what they sound like. I'm not knocking skullcandy, they're probably very good but as it's such a personal thing, I'd really want to listen to them before buying and not sure if that's possible...

I have a set of open ear Goldring dr100's and I am well impressed with them. They are well priced too. Grado are the most impressive I have ever tried but these have a hefty price tag.

For in ear stuff I always use Etymotic Research or Shure. The ER6i's from Etymotic are outstanding!!

I use Sure SE range and they are excellent.

I had a listen to the CX300 and was severely unimpressed.

Thanks Mark, that's kind of reassuring to know I'm not the only one who finds them uninvolving

Just found my "faulty" in ears, they were MDR-EX082 model. Just before I was about to bin them, I'd give them one last listen and  they're now working again :hooray: :)

I don't think I can return the CX300 so might just hang on to them if the Sonys go again.

Picked up a set of 5 quid Sony jobbies at asda recently -

they are superb

cheap

decent sound

tough

and aren't of the "invade your inner ear" design that so many seem to favour :)
