Fan cutting in after cold run

Featured Replies

I have a Vrs, CR with DSG. During this recent very cold snap, following a 6/7 mile urban trip, when the engine never really got warm, I parked the car and the fan cut in, ran for about five minutes and then stopped. This happened on three separate occasions.

I have spoken to the dealer about this and he says that, as no engine warning light has come on, there is nothing to worry about. Seems peculiar to me. I have noticed that when this happens, the area at the back of the car above the exhaust is very warm to the touch but otherwise everything seems normal.

Has any one else had this please?

ive had the same occurance half a dozen times , mines a vrs cr but not dsg , it seems to be accompanied with a slight increase in tick over speed around 1000rpm prior to turning off, and a lot of heat coming out of exhaust when engine is turned off. Ive put it down to the ecu managing / regenerating the dpf ?

ive had exaclty the same thing on my cr (non dsg) and was going to post a thread up about it. I'd also assumed it was the dsg regen kicking in as its happened on short journeys where the tickover went to 1000 rpm instead of 800 and the fan worked after the engine was shut off. The first time it did it the 1000rpm tickover was as lumpy as anything and I thought there was something wrong but it went back to 800rpm after it was restarted ??

Sounds like it is related to the DPF regeneration.

Be aware that some Octy IIs have had problems with the radiator fans running after the engine is switched off (relay or controller issues), so it might be worth keeping an eye on this (it will flatten the battery prettty quickly if it keeps on going).

i had that on my L&K where it drained the battery on the day I was picking it up! had to colelct two days later as they had no spare relays to replace the faulty one. pretty sure its not a faulty relay in this case as it turns off in a matter of minutes.

I've had it a few times with the DSG. Took car to dealer who told me to monitor it to see if it happens regularly, and, if so, to take it back in to them to have a look at.

Hasn't (touching wood) done it recently, so not too concerned.
