vRS oil change slow down

Featured Replies

My vRS TFSi is nearly ready for its variable service, it gets a fair bit of stick at times so doesn't do a great amount of miles between services

Recently the car seems a bit underpowered, its got a stage 1 map which was great but now its feeling rather standardish, could the cold weather and old oil have this effect? more to the point do you think it will feel full of beans again after a good service?

My TFSI felt better after it was serviced although it liked the cold weather :)

yes the cold weather is always going to be good for induction :) but im thinking cold starting and thick cold oil

Don't you let your engine warm up properly (oil as well as coolant) before giving it some stick ? Once the oil is warm its shouldn't be making that much difference. But if it does I'd be inclined to change it sooner than what the variable service indicator says (and that may be a good idea if you normally drive quite hard).

As far as the performance goes I can think of two explanations:

1 There is something wrong (find out what it is and get it fixed)

2 You have become accustomed to the performance

- cheap option is to drive gently for a few days (strictly nothing over 1/2 throttle), then it will feel fast again when you floor it ;)

- expensive option is to go for the next stage in performance mods (stage 2, exhaust, bigger turbo etc) :)

hmm, im driving a ford focus tdci in the day at the minute, so the vRS always feels like a rocketship when i get in it, just at the minute it feels a bit unresponsive and a bit dead at the top end of the rev range but no so much that id be able to take it into the dealers as a fault

I always let the car warm up before I abuse it - mechanical sympathy is my middle name :)

Oil shouldnt make any difference, you must let the engine warm properly before giving it some stick. At that point the oil will have warmed through to operating temp and be exactly the same. My old vRS drove exactly the same between services (18K variable).

The cold weather, should if anything make your car feel quicker.

What I think you are seeing is that you have got used to the power levels so the car now feels normal. I had the same thing with my old vRS, but a quick run on the rolling road confirmed everything is as it had always been.

Depending on how aggressive your re-map is, it could be that it would be better suited to different a different fuel pump or injectors, there are loads of threads on here about TFSI's feeling "breathless" at the top end.

Also there are loads of threads about failed diverter valves. Could be that the extra boost created by the re-map has caused this to happen?

Have you any fault codes?

I agree. My PDTDI VRs isn't due it's first service until 18,500 miles:eek: This is much too long in my view and I am noticing a fall-off in fuel consumption in recent times (has now done 17,000). I changed the air filter myself at 10,000, but I will be interested to see how it feels after an oil and filter change...
