So its a simple case of plugging the lead into the port under the steering wheel and mounting the display!

Is it really that easy?

Pretty much, it comes in 3 parts though. Liquid unit, 6" ribbon cable which screws to the back of the Liquid and OBD cable which screws into the ribbon cable. Ribbon cable has connector plugs each end similar to a computers printer port if that makes sense.

The ribbon cable

The gauge as it comes

Wonder if we could do a group buy... :)

I emailed about possible group buy discounts. This was the reply:

Mark,

Yes, I offer 5% discount for 5 to 9 units and 10% for 10 or more.

Best Regards

Cool

I noticed from their website they do an exchange air vent service for £35 so if we can get a group buy 10% discount that would be about £180 for the gauge and vent I guess.

If you can read and clear fault codes that also makes it a very cheap alternative to buying a proper version of VAG-Com and a cheap laptop to run it on

It's not an exchange as such, you send your vent away and they modify it for you.

also it can only read 4 fault codes

The latest sofware now reads up to 12 fault codes.

What is the latest software version? Mine say's 2.03 when plugged in.

What are the main differences and improvements?

Also how do you get the pacman game up?

Ian

lex you need to update the software mate give jim a call top bloke mate he will sort you out

Anyone tried fitting one of these in the ashtray cubby hole for a 'stealth' option (Close the lid when not using)?

If you pull the ashtray out, there even seems to be a convenient hole for the wire. I reckon it would be reasonably wasy to knock up a mount for the gauge.

(Can you tell I'm trying to convince myself to get one of these?!!)

Do it  If I don't end up spending a fortune on necessary repairs to my car I am thinking of buying one and may fit it in the ashtray as you suggest.

All you need to do is get a bit of plastic moulded in the right size to fit the slot (remove and use the ashtray as a guide to size), then screw the gauge into it with four screws. Run the cable up round the back of the climate control unit and across to the OBD port.

Probably a bit more dangerous than a vent mounted one if you are checking the boost while driving though!

if you make a group buy, i'm really interested

Sorry guys I've ordered mine seperately... was too impatient to wait for a group buy

I've heard that they are currently testing a version of it for the 1.9 TDi engine on a Mk4 Golf so hopefully if that goes alright we could see some interest from the Fabia lot which would make a Briskoda group buy much easier

Ooh, let me know when it arrives! I fancy taking a peek at one of these! :D

Shame it's not going to arrive in time for the meet on Friday, but if Ender comes along he has one we can look at

Sweet, looks like a tasty piece of kit. I'll no doubt want one after I see it, so maybe its not a good idea to show me! :o

Is this 4 / 12 simultaneous codes or in total?

I want one as well now :( Couldn't live without my vent though so I was considering mounting in the cubby hole under the radio. I need some practice on CAD so I might draw a mount up, produce it on our ABS Rapid Prototyper and see how it looks before I take the plunge and order one :P

It is a shame that the octi only has flat surfaces where you wouldn't be able to see it if mounted on them :thumbdwn: If I had the skill I would put the screen where the blank button is next to the fuel filler release as it's about the same size and have the joystick near the handbrake. That would be quite cool I think.

It shows up to 12 codes at once.

Thankyou to Ender for showing me his ashtray-mounted one on Friday.

I've made up the panel to fit in the ashtray today, gauge should be arriving next week

What's the deal with the decreased MPG with these fitted? I'm assuming it all heavy foot related and not actual a massive power drain?

Yep apparently to do a BHP measurement you have to redline it in any gear, also the temptation to keep doing 0-60 runs will cane the fuel

  • Author

Yes its nothing to do with power drain  more to do with power measurements :D

Max boost tests, Dyno runs, MAF air flow values and the G force meter are just some of the things which kind of make your right foot heavier :D

All done in the interest of science though
