Hi Rob

Thats a very interesting statement/opinion about the temptation to buy a 4X4 over an RS for pure driving fun, one which I "IMHO" find hard to understand. I must stress the I am in no doubt that a chipped 4X4 is fun to drive i've seen Colin and Ian enjoy their vehicles both on the road and on the track.

Consider this, can you really drive either car to the max on the road in a pure drivers/driving manor? I think to say yes would be foolhardy not to mention down right dangerous you never know what or who is waiting around the corner. You may have fun but you could never drive on the edge safely. The only place IMHO to drive in such a manor is on the track and this is were the RS wins hands down "FOR ME". A chipped RS overtakes cars on the track it has no right to, cars costing way in excess of the RS, it's levels of grip are phenomenol for such a big car. I just can't explain the feeling you get after you get back to the pits and red faced owners of porsches, TVR's and the like come over and enquire about the RS.

Don't take my word for this ask guys like Jon (TaviaRS) and steve, i've seen steve come back onto the pits shaking with both joy and excitement just looking at the car in total disbelief. Do yourself a real big favour take your RS on the track....on second thoughts don't you'll never come off.

I'd seriously be tempted, Nah! :D

It's all about traction (or lack thereof) on the front wheel drive car. Maybe I'm just crap at laying down the power, or maybe once you're pushing 200 BHP, it's too much for front wheel drive - especially in a car as big as the Octavia.

Skoda should give us a 225 BHP 4WD sports Octavia in the next range , with the Cupra R's Brembos and the Golf GTIs recaros , along with 18 in wheels , that would definately keep me as a Skoda owner after my RS! Maybe we should all email Skoda customer services and nag at them to build one?...:)

All i can say is TAKE YOUR CAR ON TRACK.

Maybe we should organise a Briskoda track day and show some people how good their cars really are.

The RS is well capable of taking on more powerful - expensive machinery. On track in the wet

And a hearty "amen" to that.

The 4x4 is a lovely car.

But its not an RS.

Vive la difference! :D

Isn't it good to know that we love our Skodas - be they Fabias, Octavias or Superbs; diesel or petrol; chipped or standard; 17" or 16"; purple or puce; leather or cloth; krypton or halogen; VVT or PMT etc etc! :D :D :D

Denis remember , i nearly bought one. Fabpreza's one.

Have you started the Prozac yet?

Breath slowly a n d relaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

There is only one way to find out, get on the track. The wetter the better.

Don't ask my why we can take these cars we just can and thats not just an empty DGW boast it's there for everyone to see.

Witchfinder,

Ive been on track once, with Des and Jon .

The only way your gonna tell if its the car or the driver is to drive all cars on track.

Not gonna happen.

If Scooby man loose's it on a corner {in the wet with 4x4/ me FWD}and i slip by does it make me a better driver than him ,or is my car better than his?

If the Porsche moves out of my way time after time obviously i start to doubt the drivers ability, but that still doesn't mean i can drive.

One place i found i could gain on everyone was the brakes.

Out braking the Subaru was easy.

The Autocar test afaik had a different driver for every car, so the result is questionable.

All i know is i had a great time and suprised a few people .

Mostly myself.

The RS is twice the car i thought it was.

Steve

See you at the next one?
