Jacking rear of fabia and placing on stands

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I am looking to put the rear adjusters back in my coilover, could anyone please tell me the best place to jack the rear of the car and place axle stands?

I am aware of the slot on the sill, however my car is now so low that the trolley jack and slotted piece of wood will not both fit under

In any case jacking it here makes it difficult to place axle stands, which I assume go in the same place? The reinforced part of the sill?

Help appreciated

jack it up on the rear axle and put the stands on the sills

at which point on the rear axle? the spring cups?

surely doing it on the beam could distort it?

These cars have four "strong enough" points - two at front and two at rear - to jack up using a trolley jack. I can't remember exactly where, but I fitted Audi TT jacking point protectors to each of them - (these points will be presently filled with hardish plastic plugs) - that way you can identify them quicker at any time in the future. If your car is too low now to get a jack etc under, just run it up onto some lengths of wood to make life easier.

Dont jack it under the rear axle, it *will* bend.

I usually drive the car up onto 3 bricks placed in a row under each rear wheel or a breeze block on its side, or wood etc etc etc then jack using the points.

Easy

Sorry to thread jack a little... but I was looking at the Haynes manual earlier in regards to jacking. It says to jack using the sill points, and then use axle stands under the sill points.

how the hell can you jack it up at those points, then put axle stands under at the same points

Exactly my thoughts.

jack it up on the rear axle and put the stands on the sills

Only if you want to bend it.

bump... can nobody say exactly where you can jack a fabia safely with a trolley jack other than the sills? Both for front and rear...

I've jacked many different cars from the suspension arm mount points.

On the fabia, you can jack the front from the bracket into which the console bushes mount. On the rear you can jack from the mount of the trailing arms (but this obviously won't be suitable if you're planning to drop the suspension.)

Just stick a thinish bit of wood between the trolley jack and the car so you don't damage any of the sealant/paint and you're fine. Only problem with the rear is the handbrake cable gets in the way a bit. And on the front, you have to get the trolley jack a *long* way under before you get to the mount point, and then you have to angle the trolley just right so the handle will fit between the wheel and the arch. The neighbours will wonder what you're doing...
