Fabia auto brake lock

Featured Replies

Hi all I have a Fabia 2 auto on a 57 plate does anybody know how to disable the electronic lock which is operated by the brake pedal so that i can shift from n to d without putting foot on brake pedal when handbrake is on at traffic lights??

welcome along, best to post in fabia section for a faster response.

You cant, its a safety feature inside the gearbox itself, and is now common place on all new automatics. Its done to make sure you are not going to go into the back of another car. Its the same as not being able to move the selector from P to R without being on the footbrake.

I was always taught that a traditional (not dsg) box should be held on the footbrake at traffic lights in position D as it does no harm to the transmission and when the lights change you are ready to go and dont have to wait for the transmission to enagage when shifting between N and D. My last auto was always in D from the time I left home to arriving at work more than 30 miles away.

Welcome :)

Hiya.

I don't quite agree with Manny, but the only reason we differ is that I think a conventional auto (inc CVTs, Tiptronic etc but not PDK, DSG & their ilk) should be held on the handbrake, rather than dazzling the guy behind when you're both stopped.

If anyone wants a detailed discussion on "when you should use the footbrake and when the handbrake", select N in an auto etc, I'd suggest that the Members' Forum "Racing and Advanced Driving" is a more appropriate place.
