Replace it, never clean an OEM paper filter it doesn't work. Filter is only £7 and forget the 40K interval the book quotes. Replace every 10K miles.

If you've got shuddering though the whole car and it isn't shaking the steering wheel i'd say it's your back wheels that need balancing.

it feels as if its comeing from the front left hand side and at points shaking steering wheel

Have you checked the wheel nuts are done up .

Aye, if it gets worse whilst turning then check this straight away

I ran a deformed tyre on the rear of mine for a couple of months before it really did my head in. I was certain the wheel bearing was gone but after inspecting the tyre I found the tyre has worn really unevenly, peaking and troughing right around its circumference. Got four new Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on now and they are excellent, better than the F1's in my opinion, especially in the wet (which it mostly is in the UK :().

This did cause the car to shake slightly as if the wheels were unbalanced so I would say after checking the wheel nuts this would be your first point of call. Another cause could be that your rear tyres recently moved to the front were not originally balanced (some garages do not balance rear tyres for some reason :thumbdwn:) or due to this reason they may not have balanced your new rear tyres.

When you moved the rear's to the front did you have them balanced again or just a straight swap?

I had 4 new tyres on my last fabia and had a judder exactly like yours but mine was at 50. Kwik fit mobile came back 3 times to try and balance, turned out the wheel had "ovalised" due to a pot hole more than likely, didn't have any visual damage.... We did manage to balance it but took a line of 5 weights of low mass. I doubt this is your problem, but......

The reason I say this is that each time the guy came back he said, "you could try just putting it on the rear" and if your rear wheels are now your fronts they might just need balancing and you just hadn't noticed with them on the back where the position is fixed. Could be you've just thrown a weight?

.

Another cause could be that your rear tyres recently moved to the front were not originally balanced (some garages do not balance rear tyres for some reason ) or due to this reason they may not have balanced your new rear tyres.

Tom, you beat me to it! ;)

went in to national tyres today when i got up and asked for the 2 tyres to be balanced done the drivers side no probs moves on to passenger side, guy doing the tyres comes to get me and says can i show you something so i follow only to find to my horror that the tyre from the pasanger side has 2 quite large bulge's on the inside wall of the tyre

ended up geting a budget tyre on it for now will upgrade later to two uniroyal rainsport 2's

to match my rear tyres

so ppl check both sides of tyres if your haveing problems
