Multiple Phones With Columbus

Featured Replies

I am about to order my Superb and am in the process of sorting out new phones to work with the Premium Bluetooth. As both my wife and I will drive the car does anyone here know if you can quickly pair different phones or does the SIM card need to be read and downloaded each time a different phone is paired with it? Also if i had the same phone as my wife would this cause 'confusion' with the car phone?

My wife and I both use Nokia 6300s. I bought Jean one because they're on the Columbus compatability list and I love mine.

I've paired them both (one at a time, with the other one switched off) and now whoever gets into the vehicle first with their phone on gets paired instantly. The phonebook (in the MaxiDot at least) shows the numbers from both SIMs once each mobile has paired once. HTH :)

Bluetooth normally looks for the first phone paired and then if that one isnt found then looks for another , the first phone paired becomes the primary and only if that phone isnt found will the system continue to look for a phone once its found a phone and paired to it it will stop looking for the primary you can usually pair at least 3 phones

We have different phone kits in our cars and they all work this way so even if we both get into the car at the same time the car kits will ALWAYS pair with my phone before looking for my wifes if i want the car to pair with my wifes phone i need to switch the bluetooth off on mine

we have identical phones. Just like Ray and his wife we use nokia and they work with no fuss. The only thing I have noticed is the our car does not look for the "master" phone 1st as you cannot actually specify a master (i dont think you can anyway). What it does is looked for the phone that was last paired to the car (which I guess in most scenarios will be the phone of the person who drives the car the most and hence the "master" idea that some people think is happening). If it cant find the last paired phone it looks for the next phone. You have to be careful if you get in the car and the last paired phone is in the house and within range of the bluetooth as it picks that phone up. Its not too much of an issue as it drops the connection when you drive away and then starts looking for the other phone.

If i get in the car and my wife was the last paired phone then it takes about 0.5mile before I am fully connected as it seems to search for her phone for a while then look for mine. Its not a problem but as caught me out as you cant pick up the phone a make a call (pulling off the road of course) whislt the connection process is happening because the phone is disabled.

downloading of phone book occurs when you first set up the system .You set up a profile for each user and it attibutes the correct phone book to that user profile. Effectively both my phone book and my wifes are stored against each profile so when i get in I see my phone book only. It dont believe it downloads the phonebook everytime I connect - if it does then it does it very very quickly. I suspect the phone book is there all the time and just becomes accessible when i connect. It does download phonebook changes - but this is an invisible process. speeddial buttons are available on the columbus screen and again these are unique to the user. Voice dial tags have to be set up in the car - i have them set on my phone but they dont work. You have to re-record into the superbs system. again a one time operation when you first set up the car.

i dont use voice dialing now - initially i did as its very good and you can even read a number out and it will dial it. its very relieable. i find its quicker to use the touchscreen on the columbus for frequently dialled numbers (you can have 5, plus your voicemail, displayed on the sceen)

cheers

Thanks to all for their quick and informative replies. I have ordered my car today and am in the process of getting Nokia 5800 phones for both of us. I know these are not listed in the current brochure but i don't think they were out when the brochure was published. They are listed on the German site mentioned in another thread so I am hoping they work.:)
