Wet drivers carpet.....

Featured Replies

A common problem it would seem. However having reviewed all the threads in this forum I am still no closer to identifying where water is coming from. I've checked / cleaned the scuttle area, looked at the pollen filter / grommets all fine. The only area I've not looked at is the seal around the 'engine bay wiring loom entry point' described in one of the posts. I understand its on the drivers side but I've no idea where......

Can someone point me in the right direction to find this......can it be accessed without garaging the car?

Cheers for any suggestions.

If on the drivers side, then it could be worth checking the bonnet release cable entry point too.....

Internal door plastic membrain - this can become damaged if aftermarket speakers have been fitted. When the door is opened after heavy rain is there any evidence of water on the lower seal?

Pollen filter, etc are on the passenger side of the car, adn I am guessing your issues (as per subject line) as for the drivers side..

Well, I went to the car wash and unsurprisingly filled my car with water! Seems to be coming in from the top right of the foot well. I'll be removing the scuttle tomorrow to check the bonnet release......the grommet looks in good condition when you peer under the scuttle though.....

It's obviously something that happens with large volumes of water (judging form the car wash incident....)

No mods to speakers so door seals should be okay.

what were you washing the car with? jet wash, hosepipe or a bucket and sponge?

Do you have a sunroof? If it was the door seals you would see a trail of water when you opened the door.

Nah, was using a 'drive through'....water started appearing inside on the first cycle of the wash just after water was sprayed on the car and ran down the windscreen. Seals appeared dry around the door so I'm confident / hoping that the issue is in the scuttle area......

No sun roof BTW..........

If I can't see anything it'll be off to the garage........:(

Forgot about car washes.... believe it or not, I have never used one in my 32 years!

has it had the windscreen replaced at somepoint in its past? My ex gf's screen was replaced and that used to leak, got a local garage to take it out, clean up all the dried up cr@p around/under the seal and put it back in which was the cure. However that was an old Felicia.

I know you have checked/clean the scuttle area, but have you checked the drains are clear from the scuttle area? They drain down to rear of the front wheel arches. Pouring some water at both ends of the scuttle pannel and it should within a second or so appear out of the drains. If not, then the drains are blocked, so the water is finding another route to escape. Loosen off a torx screw of two, pull the liner back and clear out any composted leaves you might find.... plus probably some smelly manky water!
