Mk1 octy Lock Removal

Featured Replies

Try to remove the lock from drivers door anyone that can explain how to release the wire from the lock to the handle.

Cheers

Which handle the inside or outside?

I've been doing my inside one all day today

If you mean the cable that links to the internal door handle, then release from the internal handle as you remove the trim, and then I spent a few minutes wiggling it about about I got it out. Sorry, there was no science to it, I needed to do mine when I replaced my internal release cable (the hook end which goes to the internal handle had fallen off). I might have tried using a mirror when it came to replacing the cable.

Have it there now released the barrel lock then it came out

Cheers guys

Yes a sunday well spent playing with locks :(

mbames - do you still have the part number and price for the inside handle cable?

The same thing has happened to mine - the hook shaped bit on the end has snapped off so the whole cable needs replacing... I'm having to wind the window down and use the outside handle to get out of the car at the moment

That is what I did for a week or two until I got a replacement part. It is common with the mk4 golf. I have the part upstairs.... let me check for the part number....

part number from my original one is: 1U0837099A

number I have one a spare one sourced from a mk1 54(?) plate taxi is: 1U0837099D

A few minor differences between these two parts. With mine, the interhook had not actually fallen off, but was only crimped on by about two or three strands of wire, and thus it had stretched and no longer worked!

Same here, mine was held on by 1 bit of wire and had stretched so much it had fallen off of the handle spindle, but I cut the wire and then tried to bodge something on the end of the wire (less said about that the better).

Thanks for the part number
