I once loaned mine to the wife............

I did that last month and she reversed into a car across the street

My wife not yours

I've done the windscreen wiper thing before, but not on the mongrel.

Done plenty more that I would sooner forget than re-live on here.

I was washing the car at the weekend and while doing the drivers side i had the passenger side window open so i could hear the radio. All was good.

Continued round to the passenger side and openned the drivers window, then got carried away, washed and rinsed the roof forgetting the open window.

Result = very clean and shiny Fabia with a rather damp door card and drivers seat! Lucky it was the sunniest warmest day in quite a while!

Yesterday I tried to remove the number plate light lens forgetting to push the retaining clip down and forced it harder and harder till I smashed it to pieces, oops.

Still nothing anyone on here has done can be as epic as that thread on an American forum where a guy flushed his engine out with tap water via a hose?!

I guessed on the wiring to some foglights I was fitting once as I'd left the instructions at home. Flicked them on and one of the wires exploded! Quickly phoned home to have the correct wiring order read out to me lol.

Related, but after a loooong day from hell, driving down the M1 at Friday homebound MPH I suddenly get an urge to check pocket for keys.

Home key = check

Car key = erm, where the F*** are my car keys. I know I had..... ohhhhh :o

Glad it's not just me then :D

When I'd had the Fabia a few weeks, I'd cleaned it and driven a fair few miles in it, I noticed quite a bit of water in the rear passenger footwell and that the seat was a bit wet ... knowing this is a fairly common problem I wasn't too worried, except it seemed to have happened quite quickly ... anyway a 13-year old fixed the problem for me, by properly closing the rear window :o

I've also been worried a few times when getting in the car where I used to work, trying to turn the key in the ignition and it wouldn't turn ... only to find I'd picked up the key to a mk5 Golf instead :o

I once stripped the entire rear light wiring loom in my old Cavalier to find out why the brake light bulb I had changed still wasn't working, until I eventually realised I had actually changed the fog light bulb instead...

and my neighbour spent 20 minutes swearing about the spark plugs in his CBR1000 when he couldn't undo them, until I pointed out that to unscrew a spark plug you actually have to turn it anti clockwise (the same as most screws!)

Mine did tha a while back as well - followed a couple of weeks later by her reversing into a bl***y great tree outside our house. I could understand the former as cars can move and could have suddenly appeared (it didn't) but a tree doesn't and it's been there about 80 years from what I can tell...

One of my early classics, which was actually with fabia mark 1 pre-crash, was changing a lightbulb.... Did that OK, but after driving for about 3 miles the gearstick suddenly started getting real stiff.... Trouble getting into 2nd and 4th. In the end it went into 1 gear and would not move so I figured something bad had happened - pulled over and got the AA out (was in my 3 year period from new)....

Mr AA man looks under the bonnet and whips out the back headlight cover from inbetween my gearbox cables. :o I didn't know whether to feel embarrassed or extremely relieved (Both I think!)

carefully moved the car under a streetlight to change the wiper blades and scuffed a wheel....

No 1. This.... Last week..... still soooooo cross with myself :thumbdwn:

No 2. Had a Mk 1 Golf and the heater control lights packed up. I stripped the dash, took out the bulb then drove down to halfords to pick up a new one. But, I didnt do anything with the connector which was no flapping around in the dashboard. It touched a screw and I managed to fuse the entire dash light wiring system. After that the dash lights would only come on when I indicated left and then they would flash in time with indicator. It was like a mobile rave!

LOL

Not that lucky are you. Hope you get your Superb fixed though.

Time for my stories!!!!

1 - When working on my Felicia to clean up the rust and spray the wing I used double sided tape which left sticky bits!!! I cleaned it off a few weeks later and redone it all though without the double sided tape!!

2 - The Passat front indicator incident

Cant remember anything else yet

Lol, get some of those colour changing LED's in there and call it a feature :D

Errrr... I once bought a citroen had it a few months then found out the hard way that they have a very low set air intake for the engine....

I was topping up the oil on my last car (FIAT stilo Abarth) and i put the oil cap from the bottle in a small recess near the headlights. Topped up the oil, closed the bonnet, started the car to let it warm up, right, where did I put the bottle cap. Oh yea, its under the bonnet. Lift up bonnet, ****!!!! no oil cap. The recess i put the cap in was in fact the opening for the airbox and when i started the car it sucked it in. Now on most "normal" cars this wouldn't be a problem but the Abarth had a 2.4 litre 5 cylinder engine in a very small engine compartment, so getting to the airbox was a nightmare. I had to removed the battery, fusebox, undertray, various other bits and bobs and with lots of swearing 3 hours later I finally shut the bonnet again. so thats certainly the daftest thing i've done to my car (apart from the time when i was very young, driving on the a68, that i decided to test out how slippy it was on the winter roads by deliberatly trying to skid................yes, I did write off the car.....doh!!!)

Loaded a new kitchen work bench into my Octavia (it fit!), pushed too far & crack - new windscreen - oops.

My dad put my Metro into reverse at 60 mph once when he forgot it didn't have a 5th gear

Luckily no harm done!

fitted a set of big wheels to my golf when i was a wee 'un that i got from the scrappy!! only to find it drove like a mad thing and i couldnt figure it out so took it to kwik fit where the bloke just shook his head at me!!....not only where they on the wrong way round but the wheels where the wrong offset!!

Fitted a massive set of fogs to an even earlier motor then drove from Ullapool to Inverness to fetch my bro in the early hours only for me to blow all the fuses to the lights so had to wait a few hours til it got a wee bit lighter then drove on with just my side lights!!!....yep i know!!....i was a right baw jaws!!!

k:)

Polo mk3 breadvan...

Started touching up the car with hammerite..

Ended up with the whole car being painted in hammerite with a paintbrush.

It also had 6x9's in the roof above the driver and passenger (which occasionally fell down).

Some deep dish wheels, coilovers and that would look good :P
