Felicia have the hiccups...

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians!

Yesterday, I did service my great Felly!

New gears on, everything went flawlessly (Yeah, i know, it is basic), till I restarted the car...

When the car is on idle revs, sometimes the Felly drops like switching off, and then restarts without doing a thing like pushing the gas pedal... Just like a hiccup. there something missing, and I'd think about the electrical side... Alternator, spark plugs, auxiliary belt, or the wheels which drive it.

Let me explain...

I can hear the wheel whining (like an old rocking chair which need some grease).

As well, last week, while getting back from work, while accelerating, a huge noise came from the engine, and the battery light switched on, like the belt was stucked while the engine was running! I had to stop the car. I checked, but nothing wrong. When I restarted the car, the noise was gone...

My other guess would be the spark plugs... I ordered some new online, but didn't get the model ordered. I went for the 3 thing in the middle one, and got the only one thingy in the center. Do I have to "tweak" them before putting them in, like controlling the space for the spark to happen..?

If you have any other thoughts, I'd be glad to hear them!

Thanks in advance!

if the whining get louder with revs you might have the same problem i had, the belt tensioner ball bering going out on you, if it is that, its only a 15min job and it very inexpensive

The huge noise happened only once... for the moment.

The whining noise on the wheel (the one on the top, near the rockers), I just noticed it, and is very low in sound... for the moment, as well.

I did not get time yet to reduce the "space", which produces the sparks in the explosion chamber, at the end of the spark plugs.

I'll try to get the belt off as well, by the same time, and put some WD40 on the bearing of the upper wheel.

Would it be a sign that my voltage regulator is dying..?

What about my alternator..? Does wrong spark plugs be able to "fry" an alternator by asking for more juice to produce? (aka : to create the sparks)

if the battery light was coming on then its a problem with the alternator, if the alternator seized/ jammed for a few seconds then then belt would squeal

a dodgy alternator can cause misfire

Thanks ChrisCrashTM!

I'm gonna check it!

a wrong spark gap would ony produce missfire (too wide) or hi HC (to narrow) im running mine at 1.10mm as a little test and the only bad thing i felt was a little hesitation at first, but thats it

wrong spark plugs would not damage the alternator

test you alternator to see if you get voltage, if you do, then the alternator is ok

I checked my battery : 12,5V

I checked my alternator and got 13,6V without any drop of voltage when misfiring.

So, my guess would go to the spark plugs...

Are my voltages displayed correct..?

Could an alternator bring same constant voltage but can oscillate/lack current..?

please excuse me if i'm stating something incorrect, but

voltage on the batery is close to 12v when discharged, should be arround 13v alternator voltage should be checked @ 3500 rpm

apart from that the values seem ok (but the batery is a bit low, maybe due to low temp or i got discharged a couple of times)

Quick update...

I fixed my issue... It was the spark plugs! I bought some Bosch FR 78 X, fitted them in, and it goes OK!

But, I might replace the voltage regulator soon! ;)
