Anyone running omp brake pads?

Featured Replies

Are you having problems getting the extreme pads?

The last set of rears I got from Jabbasport and received the next day.

Also Part Co may be worth a try. They supply TMD friction products and have just sourced me some mintex 1144 compound pads for the 6 pots. Very helpfull they were.

I've never used OMP pads or discs.

Yep having trouble because Mintex no longer manufacture the Xtreme range.

 That's bad news - they were a great all round pad. You could try the M1144 but these are a little more track orientated and looking at the material I suspect they may be a bit more aggressive to the discs and dusty.

I'd be intrested to know if you manage to find a similar replacement so could you maybe let me know how you get on?

I've never actually tried the Xtreme's before but i have heard great things about them. Tbh i don't find the OE pad bad at all its just the brake fade from high speed that scares the life out of me!! That's why i'm trying to find one like the legendary Xtreme pad.

I have used OMP's on a punto GT and was not very impressed, in fact the standard pads were better (genuine fiat). Have not used them on any VAG car but that's my experience for what it may be worth.

Cheers.

Thanks you've put me off already lol.

Well, I was sold the M1144 as a fast road pad which was less aggressive on the disc and less "dusty" than the stock pads. A few weeks after I fitted them I needed to do an emergency stop and scared a colleague who'd thought (as I did) that they were "following at a safe distance" as I out-braked them by about 40 feet from 60mph! (both driving "normal" cars except that mine had big wheels and tyres for a 1.4 by 1995/6 standards)

Never used OMP either, but note that, like TarOX, they're Italian, and seem to make similar claims about their pads working best with their discs?

I've got them all round on my 4x4 nothing wrong with them but to be honest I can't really tell any difference from stock ones. Got them from justpartsbiz a while ago, might be worth a try.

Looking forward to trying the M1144's now, I've removed the calipers for now whilst fitting stainless sliders and for a good chance to get the pistons really clean before pushing them home again. The Hawk HP+ pads (which is an awesome seriously high performance material by the way) have been making a mess of my wheels and Rotors due to it's very agresive nature.

I bought the M1144's hoping they would be less dusty ect but the pad face does appear aggressive. How did you rate the dust output in the end Ken? Unfortunatly for my pad shape M1144 was the "lowest" performance available from Mintex.

Anyway last week an unexpected set of Hawk HPS compound pads arrived on my doorstep from Compbrake which are a more everyday pad with occasional track days coumpound.

Which ones do I fit?

Ta, I've emailed them but aren't hopeful as they don't have them on their website.

Yes i noticed that too. I expect they would be well suited to their discs but maybe not standard discs.

Does anyone know who sells front M1144 pads?

Just having a look at the demon tweeks catalogue for you. They list pads for a Golf MK4 GTi/Turbo. Part number MDB2041 then state M1144. With Mintex the part number seems to represent the pad shape and not the compound so 1144 has the same part number as 1155 and 1166. You just need to state part number and compound when ordering. They are not cheep though - this seems a common problem with the standard pads and race calipers are much cheaper to fill.

I'd double check that part number and search elsewhere as Demon tweeks are pricey listing as £81.62 plus VAT. Part Co will order pads from TDM friction (Mintex) for you.

I paid £55 plus VAT for my 1144's all be it in a different shape.

Just been on the Mintex site, and that part number MDB2041 seems to be correct for the MK1 Octavia Vrs. They list this number for a standard replacement pad which supports the thoughts of this number representing the pad shape and then you specify the compound.

Job done :D

Ok thanks i will look into it.

I know the old Extreme pads were MDB2041 but with an X on the end so this does back up what your saying.

They better be good!!! :( The truth is I can't think of anything else that will outperform just a standard set of mintex pads for less money. Depending on how you drive your car the standard mintex pads are excellent and in my opinion out perform the Pagid pads that were fitted as factory standard. But if you run hard heat cycles through then you risk glazing the pad faces.

Like I said, pads seem dear for the standard calipers. For example DS2500's for the standard calipers were £130 yet for the bigger race calipers they are around £80. A bit unfair really but was a nice surprise for me. :D

This will make thoses pads seem like a bargain - I've still got my face pressed against the demon tweeks catalogue and found a set of pads for my 6 pots by Endless - MA45 compound costs £540.17 plus VAT :eek::eek:

I have the OMP ones on the rears. I actually like them, better than standard and don't suffer as much on the rear brake squeal. I have extremes on the front

Holy cow how do they justify that price!!

Looked at Black diamond predator pads too but there isn't much feedback on them.

I got BD Pred mate only on the front.

I love them along with the EBC discs I got apart from the ticking that I cant get rid of yet bit will be trying to when I get home.

They are pritty good when it comes to stopping and I havnt noticed any faid yet. could be something to do wi the discs too tho

i've used omp's on a polo before, never again, over priced, noisey, useless. but to be fair i should imagine they would be good for track use where the temperature is kept high

Ha yes i remember our Pm's a couple of months back. You have those dimple type discs on iirc so like you say it could be the good discs. Out of interest are your pads disappearing quick?

not really they are pritty good. ill know more when I strip it down again in few week.

iirc the back weres more than the fronts so ill let you know. cost me £60ish i think

they were a stopgap before gettin the 6 pot beasts like Octavia. but they are that good at stoppin me Dont think ill bother payin 1k+ when 230 is enough for disks n pads.

They may do the job for the money you are looking at. Around the £45-£50 mark for the fronts (part number PP312) The thing that would worry me is the heat transfer layer on the back of the backing plate to transfer heat away from the disc and pad. This means the heat has one place to go - your fluid

I'd much rather have a bit of brake fade than boil my fluid which I did do a couple of times with the standard set-up. A good high performance material should handle the heat without the need to channel it onto the next component in the braking system if you see what I mean?

This may be a load of marketing waffle as the piston is in contact with the back of the pad anyway but it just strikes me as a funny thing to write on a website for a product. Taking heat away from the disc through the system is not a good idea!

Edited by Octavia Vrs!

mmm just looked at the EUROPERFORMANCE site.

I ordered the PP312 as it says vRS on there and they were cheap. They called me up sayin they were the wrong ones for my car and they were sending the correct ones (PP279) which are the correct ones for the car they said but they were more expencive. Like a div i beleived them!!!!

what car are these ones for?

could this be the reason for the ticking?
