Yes, you need to replace both headlight assemblies.

am I missing something here? Are right hand drive Octavias equipped with left hand drive headlights then??

(and if so, how do they pass MOTs??)

Sorry if I'm being thick - just had a loooooong day at work:confused:

here in india we dont have such a problem , actually it was being wrongly fitted by authorised service centre and now they refuse to change them , also i also know that by changing headlights it can be done but in U.K vehicles going to europe often change there light pattern . so i want to know how to do that??

Its done by changing the headlights all together. I actuaaly have a set of virtuaaly brand new headlight for an Octy 1 1.8t 4x4, but I'm sure they fit any Mk1 octy.

I had them to fit my UK car when I lived in Germany, I just keep forgetting to put them on flea bay!

Usually what's done with a UK car running incandescent lights is either to fit a pair of headlight masks which blank part of the beam pattern, or headlight shields with a lens pattern or the blanks built in.

If you've got Xenon dips it really shouldn't be an issue; it's tricky to get at, but the beam can be switched from RH to LH dip or vice versa by moving a switch (on each unit).

Ive been trying to find how to do this. WARNING there are high..very high voltages about. Dont do this until headlights have been off for 2+ hours.

Then remove the headlight cover held by 2 spring clips. Look (a mirror helps) for a lever and move this across. Replace cover...if you find out how to do this quickly let me know. Go and do the other side.

How you do this if youve just driven to Dover in the dark and get off an hour later in the dark I don't know, but please don't think you can ignore the high voltages we're talking of 25,000+ so youre lucky if all you loose is a couple of fingers.

The alternative is to pay your friendly skoda man about £50. Dont try unless you are pretty dextrous or youll be paying anyhow to get it put back together,
