Concerns !!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've just joined as I'm considering buying at VRS diesel but need some advice.

I am currently driving a 04 Seat Leon which I've had for the last 2 and half years, Its been a great car and has'nt missed a beat but its time for a change. I've been looking around for a couple of weeks now for something new and went to look at a 07 Octavia VRS last week just out of curiousity............. and boy was I pleasantly surprised !

Too cut a long story short I have put a deposit on the car but I'm now having second thoughts because I've a couple of concerns.

The first is that the car has 30,000 kilometers on the clock but has'nt had a service, the dealer assures me that the first service was'nt due until now and that every service from here on will be due every 15k but 30k without a service seems very high to me.

The other thing that is bugging me is that the bonnet of the car has several paint chips which seem unusual for the mileage.

The car is being sold by a main dealer in the Leinster area and he is giving me a full 12mth warranty with the car. The car is very clean one or two small scratches and a small dent on the front wing but seem very clean otherwise. I am getting a good trade-in price on my car so am I being over cautious ??

Thanks Fred

Welcome. The first service is quite possible on variable servicing, (i.e. using long life oil). 30,000 kilometres suggests long distance motorway driving.

Can't really comment on the stone chip side. Mine has loads. If the car drives okay and is tidy, then I wouldn't have any concerns.

Thanks for the advice, Can the Octy be changed back to fixed service intervals by the dealer ?

Is there anything else I should be looking out ?? Sorry for all the question but have very little knowlege when it come to Octys.

Well done on the site lads, some great info on here.but no doubt I'll still have questions.

Yes, it can.

welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site.

Regarding stone chips, common on a lot of modern cars due to type of paint used these days.

Car will be on variable service as already said, so all good there.

Just buy it and enjoy, they are great cars for the money.

Hiya.

If you check the Skoda support fora for Octavia 1 and 2 (can't remember which offhand), some time in the last month there's been a discussion on variable vs fixed servicing, and who it's appropriate for,

hello and welcome
