Just found out why skoda's are cheaper than vw's,my car's been looked at today by the local skoda place for the following defects h/lights flickering ,rattling beetween the front seats, and shock horror rust bubbles under the front two doors.

amazed to be told can't find anything wrong with the lights and advised not to drive in licolnshire where the roads are poor if thats making your h/lights flicker.

can't find the rattle, amazing they never took the car out on the road to listen for any rattles and anyway they said there only allacated so much time ,so stripping the centre console would take to long.

Took some photos of under your doors to send to skoda if we get the ok we will need it for two days, this is the bit i like, all depends how long u keep the car, does that mean it would rot through if i kep't the car for a long time.[gimi back my golf i wish] :(

I'd give it a little push, sounds like they're just flogging you off. Perhaps a different dealership will be more helpful - that sounds a tad bad. Xenons can flicker like that as they adjust their height and that can flicker.

cheers mate,

when u tap the glass it also flickers more so on the o/s one.

Rust

I would go to another dealer if i was you they sound like a cr*p outfit to me.

Good luck with the car

Rust on such a new car is most unusual so I'd say either it's not rust or there is a problem with the manufacturing.

At the next dealer, take the car out yourself to show the rattle to the engineer and then, if you say you can tap the headlight to make it flicker, do that in front of the engineer and then do it to one of their demo cars and see if its the same.

Also, just cos your Golf was fault free doesnt mean that ALL VW's are and conversly, just cos your Skoda has a couple of faults doesnt make them all bad. Just a very BAD dealer IMHO.

Some dealers can give a make a bad name. I would imagine that the flickering lights is down to a poor connection / earth. As for the rust your Skoda comes with a 12 year warranty on perforation as I recall. As long as the underside of the doors haven't been scrapped along a high kerb and the paint removed the warranty should cover. I had a rattle in the dash on my last Octy2 and the dealer located & fixed it very quickly.

Someboby has bought out a CD which you put into the CD player and it resonates different sounds to identify rattles without driving the car, but if the dealer didn't even drive the car on the road then I would look for a dealer that does care.

Good advice there.

In my experience , some dealerships have staff that go out of their way to miss faults and others are just genuinely unable to find them. By the time you have explained the problem to the receptionist , they have condensed that down to a one line description on the job sheet , and the mechanic only has a five minute test drive it's not surprising.

I've always had much better results by asking nicely to borrow a mechanic for a couple of minutes and showing them exactly what the problem is unless it's something really obvious.

Just what I was about so say so you've saved me the trouble

my car's been looked at today by the local skoda place :(

Which dealer did you go to? Was it Rainworth??? Ive had to pay a couple of visits to them, and not had great service!

Try Clock Garage at Spondon Derby, bit out of the way, but get a lot better service and respect!!

Rust

Plenty of them about cr*p outfits. Deal with the organ grinder and not the monkey.

The answer to mr stu,the bubble's are around the welds under the doors they say and yes it is unusual for a car being two months old, having had dozens of cars in the last 35years its the first time ive come across it also.if its not rust what the hell do they want my car for,for two days.

I had rust on the tailgate and offside rear door on my 2 year old Octavia estate.I took the car to Hazelden's in Doncaster and they told me it had been painted before and so was not covered by warranty (It hadn't).I then took it to Hortons at Lincoln and they sorted out the problem and had it repaired.Go to another dealer.Monkster.
