total removal of aircon

Featured Replies

Is it possible to totally remove the aircon on a 2002 octy tdi? Mine has never worked since i got the car and on inspection , the clutch has come off the end of the compressor? Im not bothered about aircon , so removing it is not a problem , but would i need a shorter drivebelt as the compressor is removed ? Any feedback appreciated .

Does your car have separate aircon or the Climatronic system on it? I think what you want to do is possible with separate aircon, but I think Climatronic would get upset to find the aircon side of it had gone!

Also, if you can, take the car to an automotive aircon specialist and ask them to quote; it'll be way cheaper than a Skoda dealer price and might be a similar price to the different belt plus new tensioner and idlers that you'd need to remove the aircon (which is more use than you might think; for example it works as an anti-fogging system).

it has the standard aircon, so hopefully shouldnt be too much of a problem.Regards Dave

I've done this on my fabia, and it just needed a shorter auxilliary belt fitting. I used all the original other bits though, and even though the tensioner pushes down on the wrong side of the new belt (due to the routing) it works fine.

Does anyone know what length belt is needed on the Octavia VRS 2002 to remove aircon pump?

Edited by sammyhale30

what belt did you use devon

Come on now. Surely someone must know. If not does anyone know what the length of the original belt is for the Octavia VRS Mk1? I think I`ve worked out that the new belt needs to be around 200mm shorter. (Worked out the circumference of the Aircon pulley and then halfed it).

IIRC, the belt for no a/c is only 75mm shorter (1195 with a/c, 1120 without a/c).

There is a belt available for no a/c.

Fantastic thank you for that!! :)
