New Key

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have looked at various threads but still not sure.

I need to buy a new spare key, the dealer said its £30 plus £60 to recode it!

Can I just buy the key and code it myself or does it need to be done by the dealer with a computer?

Thanks in advance as £90 + Vat seems a lot for a key!

At a guess here,,The dealer needs to do it. It needs a computer to programme the new key. The new key as it is will open the doors,,but,,that's about it,,,It wouldn't be able to start the engine!

Hope this helps.....

Could always get a key and come see me in brum centre:thumbup:

Got my key cut by http://www.duplicut.co.uk/ << they in sutton coldfield

Then programmed key myself ...My key was also 2nd hand so i needed a new transponder. If you buy new key this is not needed

If you have the security code for the car its easy enough with VCDS, if you don't to the dealer with you.
