Help.TDI 110 cut out and wont start

Featured Replies

My wifes Y reg TDI 110 cut out at traffic lights today and wouldnt start. The timing belt is not broken. When we try to start it there is whitish grey smoke coming out the exhaust. When we towed it home I briefly tried to start it in gear.It sounded like it wanted to go but would not pick up.There was quite a lot of whitish grey smoke coming out of the exhaust. Is it possible that the timing might have jumped or stripped a couple of teeth off the belt?( I am not sure when it was last changed).I took a couple of injector pipes off and there is fuel squirting out.

How is the coolant level?

Water level ok.Oil level ok.

Have a full fault code scan and have the belt checked, it's pretty quick to do only the top cover needs to come off to check timing.

Greg.

White smoke on a cool or cold bump start doesn't really suggest anything more sinister than the glow plugs not having been activated when you tried to bump it.

The engine was still warm when I was trying to start the car.I will be doing a fault code scan and checking the belt and the timing on Friday (hopefully).I will post how I get on.

I checked the timing today and the pump timing was 2 teeth out.It must have jumped when the car slowed down to stop at the lights.I set the timing up and the car started 1st time.I then removed the old belt and fitted a timing belt kit.The car is now back to normal.I guess we were lucky that there was no damage. Thanks for all the posts.
