16"x8J ET40 - Did I make a mistake?

Featured Replies

I tried to search the forum, but no luck :(

I have bought 16"x8J ET40 rims. And, suddenly, I realized I can have a problem...

I will really appreciate your help and information!

1. Can I use these rims with 205/45R16 tyres, or I need to go with wider tyre? If so, what size?

2. I have also bought from Milotec springs (I think it is Eibach) Sport Springs "Pro-Kit" 25mm lowerProduct No.: 10-79-001-05-22

Can this setup be run on Fabia I?

Do I need new shocks?

Please please, I need advice

That tyre will have a nice stretch on it, so i think will look cool.

Set up seems fine, you dont have to have new shocks but I would if you can.

You think (know) the rim size of 8J will fit into Fabia, without scratching some body parts? I have fear of ET40...

And you think tyre size will be safe for driving? I don't need to go with wider tyre?

P.S Thank you for quick response! I appreciate it very much! :D

I have 7.5" wide with a big drop, and it's not a problem. 8J will be quite wide, but not to the point where it will be comprimising the suspension/wheel arch, at least not with a 1" drop. 205 will be fine I reckon, but with the stretch I doubt you will have any protection against kerbing (like any of us do anyway :D)

I used to run 195/45's on a 16" rim no problem

OK, thank you all!!!

I am now relaxed, and cannot wait to put this all on my 1.4TDI

Once again, thank you all.

I will post pictures once ready.

but how wide was that 16 inch wheel?

Yes, that is the point of my question...

8J is a bit wide, I am afraid... + Eibach springs

8J = 8 x 2.54cm = 20.32 cm

205/45R16 tyre is ~20.4cm

Is stretched tyre dangerous for everyday driving... highway, city driving... I do not drive fast, and do not take corners too fast :) just normal everyday driving...

but how wide was that 16 inch wheel?

Whoops! Lol

Was an 8" wide ;)

i run 16 x 8J on the rear with 205/45's and i've done arch damage, but my car is all the way down on coils and runs 35mm adaptors on porsche rims.

(i dont know how to work out ET's so no idea what that would make mine)

i doubt you'd have any problems to be honest, not at that height.

I have 17" rims on my std. Fabia with eibach lowering springs -> 30/35mm, cant remember.

They are 8" wide, ET35. Running 215/40/17 ATM, but aiming for 235/40/17 in the back when tires are needed. You get quite some stretch with 205 tires. Will look cool, but you will have to be very carefull around curbes. I haven´t got problems with rubbing on mine.

Ok, now I am relaxed again :D

Thank you all! This was very important for me to know.

In worst case scenario, if ET40 is too much close to suspension, I will put some minimal width distancer, and it will sort the problem.

I will put pictures in 2 weeks :)

And if 205/45R16 look to .... fragile, I will go to 215/40R16 or even 215/45R16

Shouldnt be a problem. The rolling diameter isn´t quite legal, but hey.

Will have a closer look-see when summer wheels are on, but what i remember from last year, it will be ok on the back, but anymore than 215 on the front will cause problems.
