Wheels on a Phase 1 Octy

Featured Replies

Whats the biggest anyone has managed to fit on their Mk1 WITHOUT mods to anything else and any pictures available of different style wheels? Cheers, Taff

lloyd has 20" on and he has lowwered it on weitec coilovers. its a red vRS mate.

19 are popular too but think 18" are the best compromise.

I run 18 x 8 inches

Offset ET 35

And the PCD is 5 x 100 (mounting bolts)

Not sure what the centre hole size is, my OZ's came with a litle insert suitable for the Hub.

What would a Mk1 look like with 19's but without geting lowered? Silly or OK? I don't want it to look like a monster truck :o)

Edited by Bigtaff

Mine did look pretty high on 19's before been lowered to be honest

Has anyone on here just changed the springs on their Octy rather than changing whole set up? Cant really afford to go for whole new suspension and dont drive it that hard anyway to warrant it.

thing about doin that mate is iirc you can only lower it 30mm and i dont think there is a kit that only lowers a few mm.

I only wanted to lower the front a little to close the gap a bit but keep the rear similar. as I couldnt find anything I went for coilovers. the AP ones are pritty cheap iirc mate. then the weitecs are mid and the KWv1 are the top of the range. (of that version if you understand that lol)

good luck mate, also mate with 19" on you might find the noise and ride a bit horrible.

all the best mate

Nothing to stop you just buying some H&R lowering springs and fitting them with your standard dampers. Just don't go crazy with the drop.

People just fit new dampers at the same time to get the full effect of new suspension and because once you have it all apart you may as well if you can.

20mm would be good (H&R / Springs / Skoda Octavia RS Saloon + Estate, 2002- (177BHP) Type: 1U, Only RS 1,8l T 2WD, 132KW / Euro Performance Car Parts)

Awesome > AP Coilover Kit Skoda Octavia Mk1

for a little bit more though you can get tis and put it to what you want lol

all depends on what you want from the drive as this will make the ride a bit harsher lol

Is anyone selling a set of the original 17s? I've got the estate and wonder why that model got lumbered with 16" wheels instead?

i remember someone sayin it got them for stability. i dont think the estate has the braces in the back and the estate is a load bearing car normaly and the 17 would make it not as good for this porpose lol.

have a look on ebay and in the for sale section mate. they are poping up. mind the furbi boys like them as they do look good on them.

Do you mean the triangluar braces that sit behind the rear seats in the Hatchback? True, the estate doesn't have those and I wondered if that would have an effect when I bought it. However, I wanted the extra space for bikes and stuff.

Don't see how the wheel size would make too much difference to stability though since the overall size is the same (I gather the hatch uses lower profile tyres to end up with the same overall circumference).

I can only guess it's to do with load bearing and that higher profile (?) tyres are better if you are expecting large loads in the boot.

It's a shame though as the 17s do look better imho.

how much do you wanna pay iep? I might have a set going lol 3 x v good tyres, 1 will need doing any time now but still legal. Pretty good condition with light kerbing only - NOT BY ME I MIGHT ADD!

lol

i think the estate is higher at the back too????? not too sure but yea it is to do with the fact the estate is mate for weight.

iirc the early hatches cam wi the 16" rims too???

Sorry, should add, not really in position to buy the 17s right now. Only bought the car this weekend and it has 4 immaculate 16s with near new michelins on them. Really ought to at least wear the tyres out first. I'm just curious as to how often the wheels might come up and for how much (there are none on eBay that I can find).

Would wheels off a 2008 fit a MK1 Octy? PCD wise I mean. I believe (but not 100%) that it would mean wheels of a PCD 5x112 as opposed to a PCD of 5x100???

No, not without adapters. Not really worth the hassle imho. How much would you want for your 17s?

Open to offers mate. A few kerb marks but 4 good tyres.

I would change the whole lot, I don't think the standard shocks are damped enough for uprated springs, especially if the shocks have seen some mileage.

I changed the springs with Weitec 30mm lowering springs, but left the standard shocks on. The problem was after, the car felt really under damped & bounced about alot.

The shocks had only done 28k miles when I changed the springs & I wouldn't have thought they were too worn.

I had to swap the shocks to something better soon after, as It was making me seasick.

Damn you all - you will see my spend all my money in a minute!!!!

Yes we are good at that  Honestly save your money on the wheels and get them refurbed and spend the money on FSD/H&R spring combo as a minimum. It is a very good set up, no point doing one without the other. If I had to choose one though it would be the FSD's. The standard dampers are the weakest link in the suspension IMO

Just so happens I'm in the paint trade and have considered doing them matt or satin black with a red pin stripe around outer most rim. Im not desperate for wheels at mo so may go the susp route instead!
