Help-just bought a car off ebay 'by accident'

Featured Replies

Made a late bid on an '04 Fabia VRS just now - and won it

Was up for for an opening bid of £4k, reserve not met. My intrigued 7 yr old sat on my lap wanted to have a go so let him bid £4100 confident the reserve wouldn't be that close........it was and I won

No intention of letting the guy down, been looking for a car around the £4K budget for too long and needed to take the plunge.

Bit of a surprise though :o

Can anyone advise of the best/cheapest HPI available out there, would have normally been to see any potential purchase prior to the auction ending and am worried I've bought a pup

Thanks, just checked it

No horror stories....relief at that

Item no. is 110358292407

This is your chance to say "Not THAT one"

I suppose you could always try to contact the guy and apologise for the 'error', offering to cover his costs for re-advertising it. Some sellers worth their salt might accept that - at least then you've only lost a small amount.

Having said that, if it is a good car £4100 is probably a reasonable price.

looks really nice you have got a bargain well done that man:thumbup:

p.s you can opt out and as they cant leave negative feedback it dont matter:rolleyes:

Looks decent enough - but then I'd always want to inspect and drive a car before I confirmed I'd buy it.

I have used the RAC twice last year and it was only a fiver each time,

and Doh

Yup, big DOH :o

Normally I'm super careful, walked away from three cars this past week because of 'issues' but it was getting near the time when the wheels were about to fall off my old banger. Just spoke to the seller who seems genuine and helpful though - good sign.

Won't be buying till a test drive is completed, but since it's non payers that have spoiled ebay to an extent the onus is on me to complete the sale.

Going down there next weekend to confront my fears :D

ps Is a cambelt due at 56k?

Looks pretty good from the pictures on ebay - if it runs as well as it looks it's probably a bargain.

Congrats to a fellow Gooner - great display today, by all accounts - just waiting for the goals on the highlights tonight.

60k/4yr.

looks like a genuine standard example from the pics , CD multichanger, and ESP ?

£4100 is a great price for the buyer. That's quite a realistic price for what they're going for, just most sellers try for more.

Just picked her up - looks like I struck lucky

Nice and clean, full service history at the stealers, cambelt replaced at 51k and new rear discs and pads fitted two weeks ago.

Has the multichanger but not sure if ESP? Only issue is an advisory at the last MOT of slight play in the steering rack, nearside. Just want to have cruise reto-fitted now

All in all, pretty chuffed. Might pop down the the local meet with her, I only live 2 mins from the White Rabbit in Maistone

Glad it worked out OK for you.

Looks like you owe your 7yr old a treat!:D:D

Any chance of hiring him out to other forum members looking for a bargain.

Dude, having been on the other end of the "my child hit the bid button by mistake" excuse several times for various different purchases; I find it extremely irritating and irresponsible when someone gets "bid happy" and wins something off me, only to back out of the sale after the win.

There are several safeguards in place to make sure you can't "accidentally" bid for something so it's a pretty lame excuse to come up with...

That said, all credit to you for following it through and buying - sounds like you got a decent car for a decent price anyway!

...and welcome to the forums by the way! :)

Yup, lame excuse but true. It's happened to me too but not for anything as expensive as a car.

I'll be a lot more careful in future now ....and thanks for the welcome

steering arms are available , so should be cheaper than a rack to fix

enjoy the car
