Thanks Amity498, but I have ordered the petrol model.

Drove the standard Octy VRS diesel and petrol, and despite the fairly high mileage i do, opted for the petrol.

Such a good engine, and the engine fitted to the LE should be even better! No cambelts to worry about for starters.

The new tfsi in the LE is amazing to drive smoth and power right through the bands. It feels better then the older engine i used in a test drive.

But be warned it doesnt give much mpg currently im only getting about 33 to 38 mpg on combined runs. ive done about 1400 miles and it feels like the engine is lossening slowly :D

I would be well chuffed with 33-38! I currently only get 36-37 on my 1.3 fiesta on my 70 mile a day commute! It is alot of twisty A roads, which is exactly why i bought the VRS!

Im glad to hear it is a nice engine, i downloaded a set of workshop training notes for that engine, it is very clever. i just hope none of the 4.3 million engine sensors goes wrong!

Can you hear the pump which stays on after you turn the engine off to keep the turbo cool?

How are you running the engine in, warm up and drive hard? Thats how i think i am going to do it.

Are you sure  ?

It was my understanding that the engine fitted to the LE was identical to the current petrol vRS. The new engine may appear in the face lifted vRS but that is still the subject of internet rumour!

Steve

As far as i know it is the new TSI engine.

Can someone who has taken delivery of a petrol LE, check there service guide and see if it says anything about changing a cambelt? If it dosnt then it must be the new engine.

The 'current' vRS has been built with the new EA888 engine since the new year...

Every day's a school day!

It's all about the emissions... on the EA888 the emissions are 175 in the Octy, on the earlier model 188 IIRC

So is this the engine that in the new golf GTi is 211Ps or thereabouts?

If so, is it detuned for us poor Skoda owners?

Steve

I spoke to a guy at Skoda Uk asking whether the TSI engine was de-tuned for fitment in the Skoda and he said that it had.

It seems a little strange to de-tune an engine by a few BHP to fit in the Skoda just so that the flagship VW models have a few more ponies, sounds like it would be added cost.

Perhaps when someone dynoes there new VRS we may find that it actually does have over 200Bhp, Only time will tell.

There are 3 versions of the EA888 2.0 TSI as far as I know

The 200 with VVT on the inlet valves

The 211 with VVT on the inlet and exhaust

and the 211 that is Audi exclusive with VVT on the Inlet/Exhaust AND 'Valvelift'

The Valvelift decreases CO2 dramatically - I think it's 149 in the A4...

How strange, the workshop notes I found on the internet seems to suggest that the only VVT is on the inlet cam?

The engine code these workshop notes are applicable to are CCTA-CBFA, have I got the correct engine here? The notes are dated March 2008 and are for the americans, dont know if this makes any odds?

That tallies with my own google research that the CCTA-CBFA versions are the 200PS model that's been in the MK5 GTI and A3 for a year or so.

Thats that query sorted then.

To be honest i didnt realise the TSI had been out that long, shows how long it takes for all the good bits to filter down to Skoda!

oh brown_d9 dont expect any engine noises or any grunts, the dam engine is quite.

Think we should have got a free cd with v6 engine noises from skoda:eek:

Really, the old one always had quite a nice noise, well as nice as a 4 pot can sound.

I wouldn't be at all surprised!

So has it got a timing belt or not?

no, the newer tsi engine as fitted to the LE is chain driven.
