Can you modify a newer engine to fit an estelle?

how different is the skoda box to a early vw box as they look fairly similer?<br />

I was looking at a vw camper gearbox (commonly used for subaru conversions of beetles) and it looks chunkier in the casing (could be made to fit imo) and the gearshaft seems to come out at a higher point than a skoda box (but bar bent into a set of 2 90 degress could solve this).

didn't have both sat beside each other but as you say looked simillar.

Hey everyone, socracking on with the Rapid project and lm thinking of a new engine, lve been offered a mk3 golf 2.0 gti or a ibiza 2.0 16v how difficult would either of these be to fit.???

Ive heard about adapter plates, flywheels etc etc lm no mechanic so any advie greatly appreciated...

As per Kieran's advice on the other forum.......don't bother unless you want a tail heavy money pit. You would need to pay someone from scratch to do this for you and you will need a whole load of re-engineering. Having a cheap but unsuitable engine and then working out how to fit it is not the way to go. Find something suitable then pay for it and then fit it. Of course anything is possible and if you want to do it and have the money then it will work!

/\ What he said, with the additional note that the Golf and Ibiza engines are engineered to be mounted transversely. If you really must use a VAG engine, one from an Audi 80 is at least designed to mount in-line so will bolt up to the gearbox once you've got a flywheel and adapter plate,

felicia engine is the same apart from a couple of very minor differences like the dipstick location and will practically drop straight in. my Rapids running on a Felicia engine at the moment..

I know this is very old but I really need help 🙏So would I be able to fit the 1.3 mpi from felicia be fine to replace my 130 5 port with?

Can I re use the inlet, carb & exhaust mani?

Does the engine bolt straight in the stock mounts?

Ambrose89 says the felly block will mate up to the stock box fly

What else would I need please

Any help be extremely appreciated!

Have you looked in other forums on Briskoda for more info, perhaps 'Classic SKODA Projects' or 'Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda Forman'.

Favorits would be nearer Estelles than Felicias I'd have thought but VW engine swaps are common across ranges of VW brands, a 130 might be pre-VW takeover though.

Thanks for this I've currently been offered a favorit engine which is an spi, do you still think that's be ok? Been told it's definitely a 136 engine although I'd have thought it would be a 135? Do you know if all favorites have the removable washer over the cut out in crank end to easily do the swap and get it working on the stock estelle box please? Everything else seems straightforward

Any info grw y appreciated I've run out of things to read!

Sorry I would not have a clue, you need advice from someone like @Papez who knows so much about these cars, hopefully he will soon be along.

Thanks my friend I'll give him a try maybe? 👍

He might come here from the 'shout-out' to him in my post, or there will be info on this in the 'Skoda Favorit, Skoda Felicia, Skoda Fun and Skoda Forman' forum.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help my freind I did speak with him and he helped me alot I ended up finding a favorit 136 which us by far the easiest route to go and re used my 130 parts to convert it to rwd, then got a spare favorit engine e which I may take the crank out of to fit in a felicua engine to give me the injection option with sone gearbox fab! Failing thus if I get bored then be a twin cam of some sort, I do have a sweet toyota engibe thst I think would go very well in the estelle!

Appreciate all the help 👌👍

There's a twin cam that works well in Felicia - 1.4/1.6 16V from 6N Polo sport/GTI. Maybe that would make it easier to fit in the Estelle. There's also an aluminium block version used in later 6Ns and Lupo, which shouldn't be much heavier than the original engine.

But you lose all the OHV magic. Don't you?

Very true I like the idea woukd definitely be cheap way to have reliable power but I've now got 2 favorit engines to play with! Was talking to a guy that makes looms for putting mpi in estelles so that's maybe a possibility to do with a felicia lump ? Onky drawback is tge gearbox fab to fit a sensor!?

Yeah indeed, the hall sensor is an issue

I apologise my phone tends to autocorrect to the wrong words these days I have no idea why? Makes me cone across like I don't know how to spell?!

If it wasnt got the permsnt box fab to use the sensor then I'd likely be going thst route saying that I'm sure I did see somewhere selling box casings for the estelle so still could be possible but

Ideally for now I'd like to be running a ported head or mpi head, ported inlet & a weber & high lift cam,

Not huge gains for the cost but it'd sound nice!

The engine will bolt up, but the old 130 engine is a 5 port motor and the 1.3 mpi engine is 8 port, so you would need to either find a set of 136 / 135 Rapid manifolds, or get creative. You will also lose the mechanical fuel pump location off the block, and changed the sump and pick up pipe for a rwd set. I have a set of the 8 port manifolds
