Changing Oil on a Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Not unhappy about getting my hands dirty but any pointers on how to do this, have done it on one or two other cars ? I take it I have to remove the plastic sump guard to get to the drain plug but where is the oil filter located ?

Also anyone have any suggestions to the make of oil to use ? I know it's not going to make heaps of difference but what are people generally using ?

I will take some photo's of where the parts are etc when I come round to doing it !

Millers pd diesel oil. Castrol do a compatible version of their magnatec now as well.

The oil filter is not a cartridge filter but just the paper element. The plastic cap at the front o he engine is what you have to remove to get it out.

You'll have to show me Saturday Jeff

You can use any oil that meets VAG 505.01

No probs.

And remember to take the paper oil filter out first before draining the engine oil.

Oh thanks for the pointer Ross as I would have just done this like a normal petrol car and taken this off last thing. BTW why is this different on this type of car ?

The paper oil filter sits in a housing. The filter has a stem on it with a seal. This keeps some of the oil in the filter housing, when you remove the filter it is relased into the sump. If you have allready drained the sump up your putting old oil back into it. If you take the filter out first it drains it out with the rest.
