Dismantling calipers for painting

Featured Replies

I've just bought a 312mm upgrade set for my vRS and want to know how to strip them down. I'm a total novice when it comes to cars, I can change oil, wheels and a few other bits but I've never had to strip down brakes before. There are two black covers which cover allen key bolts. Is it just the case of undoing them?

As I said I'm a novice and just want to be sure. Don't want to break anything

Thanks in advance

Martyn

yeh take the pins out and then if you're powdercoating them you'll need to remove the pistons and seals if you're just painting a steady hand is all you'll need or some masking tape.

to remove pistons an air compressor is easiest, just put nozzle where the fluid pipe goes and squeeze the trigger (just mind your fingers arn't infront of the piston when they pop)

If powder coating take all the bits off (bleed nipples, rubbers etc) and ask your powder coater to mask them up well.

Re-assemley can be a pain but is possible.

Enjoy

if you are just painting them , just mask up all the rubber bits and the caliper piston/seal area , and make sure you give them a good clean

I was going to do this as well. If i took the hydrolic pipe off will it leak fluid everywhere? and will i need to bleed them when i put them back on?
