Another stupid question - tyres

Featured Replies

My final question before buying a Diesel vRS is a simple one...

I want to be able to fit steel wheels and cold weather tyres on it during the winter (the village where I live has it's own snowy micro climate). Can anyone suggest wheels and higher profile tyres to fit the vRS that will still have the same circumference?

Cheers guys

The steel wheels from the base models or spares should do for this job. That or steelies off a Golf (I think they fit).

Can't remember what size they are though.

Just get a set of 16" 'steelies' fitted with 205/55 16 tyres that will be the same as your 'space saver' spare.

You can't use 15" steelies (as fitted to lower spec Octavias) because the will not fit over the 312mm brake discs on the vRS.

Alternatively you could source some 16" or 17" alloys to fit from ebay or here in the Freedom section.

Good luck.

Tyres - 195/65R15, Rims - 15J6

NO - they won't fit over the brakes on a vRS. :thumbdwn:

These are fine.

Or 7J x 17" rims with 225/45 17 tyres; as fitted to earlier vRS as OE.

I am interested in selling my standard Elegance alloys, which are 205/55R16. The car has done 14k miles, and the wheels are in decent shape i.e. no kerbing.

Let me know if interested. Les.

Those would do the job nicely, still look smart and they wouldn't look 'low rent' in the way steelies would.

Cheers guys.

Les, I'll drop you a PM once I've got the car. If you've still got them we could have a deal...

Cool - I haven't bought the replacement wheels and tyres yet, but let me know when you are interested. Cheers.

It is correct that the 15" wheels won't fit over the 312mm brakes. I've got 312mm running under 16" alloys and it's a close fit under those.

If you're interested I'd have a look at the nokian all weather plus, WR or WRG2 tyres. They can be run all year if you like and are snowflake in a mountain rated. Others here like quatrac 3.

There is a Quatrac 3 vs Nokian WR thread i started in the octy II section somewhere.

Worth considering if you just want to be able to cope with snow rather than have to change tyres as and when.
